While discussing Project Natal and the benefits of not having to hold a controller in your hand on tonight’s episode of GameTrailersTV with Geoff Keighley, Steve Ballmer, President and CEO of Microsoft, took a stab at Sony’s “Move” motion controller.

The Microsoft CEO believes Natal is true “next generation motion gaming”. But what does he think of Playstation Move?

“I think it is a big idea, if you really want to get involved with playing with a remote controller, I suggest you go out and buy a $199 Wii and play some of the great technology that Nintendo invented 5 years ago.”

Ballmer isn’t the only person that has taken digs at Move as of late. Reggie Fils-Aime joined in on the fun saying he would be "embarrassed" to be in Sony's position, not just financially, but also with Sony being reduced to releasing a copycat product.

*Note: This is basically what his statements would sound like coming from Microsoft.  If you feel it's trolling then you must also feel that Jack Tretton is a troll.

Oh Jack......People in glass houses really shouldnt throw stones.

Its even more ironic given that Sony's first rushed copy of Nintendos strategy, the six axis, never really took off in the way they hoped.

I guess if at first you dont succeed, eh Mr Tretton !

I can't really see how complaints its an Eyetoy clone are even justified as the Sony Eyetoy wasn't a big enough success to be considered inspiration. I doubt that anyone is going to say that due to the Eyetoys 'massive' success Microsoft rushed their engineers to complete a copy. In reality the Natal interface is closer to a Wiimote clone than it could ever be an Eyetoy clone.

I can understand anyone having hurt feelings or whatever, but its pretty stupid to draw a link between the Eyetoy and the Natal interface in the same fashion that you wouldn't draw a connection between Microsofts failed tablet PC format and the iPad. Im not going to rush around saying the iPad is a tablet PC clone when the tablet PC never did anything and barely sold nor did it meet the requirements of the market.

You sir, are a complete idiot, lol.

Anything can be an inspiration, success or not, Natal basically IS an improved eyetoy same as move is basically a Wiimote.

It's pretty stupid to draw a link between playstation Move and Wiimote but not draw a link between Natal and the EyeToy! Yeah Natal is better and adds more sensitivity and stuff to it but it still does the same functions that the EyeToy intended to, just miles better! When Microsoft was planning its next move and decided to go into motion controls they clearly looked at the EyeToy, it's failings, it's successes and put that into the development of Natal, probably even making a concious decision to make an improved eyetoy rather than copying the wii as sony did. Any company would do it that way, its called research and development!

^I updated my post...any videos of Natal working in the dark? any videos of Natal working with people moving behind the Natal player(s) ? Any videos of Natal working in a tight space with poor lighting? Any videos of Natal games being anything else than what the Eyetoy games are?

Nah, didn't think so.

gg no re

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Yes, it's obvious, PS Move copied the Wii, everybody knows. Nintendo was the first company introducing move sensor. Jack shouldn't talk this way about other companies when they haven't been innovative enough to be able to bring something new to the market. At least Microsoft is trying to opne its own path. And no, Natal is not EyePet.
Sony, you also should be lookin for your own way and releasing new quality games...come on, we have been waiting for Gran Turismo 5 for years!!

My signature is the answer to that guy. Im just posting so people can see how Sony doesn't imitate competitors.

Btw its a pretty lame dive coming from a company shamed into third place by last generation hardware and motion controls which his company first mocked and then copied.

QTF!

I would love to see Major Nelson come and say "If you want a motion controller go out and buy a $200 wii that came out 4 ago"

This. LOL.
