Forums - Sales - GameStop: Publishers can make money on used games through DLC

Ok maybe they won't do the whole serial key thing. But this is the way I see things. Right now they bundle free DLC with new copies of videogames right (and if you pre-order from GameStop and what not, you get exclusive free DLC.. which is even worse! I don't know about what the arrangement is with Battlefield Bad Company 2's DLC but I know that with Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age, used owners/renters can still buy the DLC online. It's not exclusive).

But what if things get to the point where they lock out the "final boss" single player campaign content on disc and bundle a DLC code with the game for you to unlock the final boss? With used game purchasers and renters having to pay $20 for the DLC to unlock the final boss. Epic has already went on record proposing this idea! Do you guys think this is going to happen? Or do you think console gamers will reject this kind of initative? The idea makes me sick to my stomach. That you can't even "beat" a game without buying new or paying $20 to fight the final boss.

Right now it's just DLC and consumers have largely rejected DLC unless it's free and they don't have to pre-order from GameStop, Best Buy or whatever to get it. But in the future who knows what's going to happen.

Around the Network

Gamestop is promoting DLC now? Just another reason I hope they die.

They could probably make money on the original game if they made it well enough that people actually wanted to keep it to play again.
