Forums - Microsoft - Tech Analysis | Splinter Cell: Conviction (576p, 2xMSAA)

I honestly couldn't care less.

Halo 3 and MW2 are sub-HD too. You don't see too many gamers complaining. Ever since FF13, it seems like sub-HD has turned into an issue. Now this is rubbing off on Splinter Cell. Seriously don't knock the game just because its sub-HD. Give it a try like you did Halo and MW.

Anything below 1920*1080p is not true HD. 720p is not even HD. The game can be upscaled to 1920*1080p on a HDTV. The natural resolution of most games is hardly ever in 1920*1080p. You need a Blu-Ray for true HD.
Natural resolution for Splinter Cell: Conviction is only 1024*576p

1280*720p is not true HD. It is actually SD. HD resolution starts at 1920*1080p

Says who?  Sony?

You don't need a Blu-Ray to put any resolution on.  You just need some space.  In fact the Xbox 360's DVD drive has a higher maximum read than the PS3's Blu-Ray, making it more capable in theory of instantaneously delivering 1080p content.

Of course, both the consoles are too weak to do this routinely.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

The game play was really good imo the graphics didn't wow me, but i didn't notice it was sub hd. The question is just why? There are some much better looking games thats been out on the 360 for months (years), why does this have so crappy graphics?

The general assumption is that games on the Xbox and PS3 use 1280x720 as the reference point for native resolution output, so anything below this tends to draw notice, particularly for bigger releases.

SC has been hyped as on of the top examples for graphics on the 360 yet to be released so it matters to many. It just makes the visuals a bit less impressive considering compromises were made (like sacrificing output resolution on Halo 3 in exchange for lighting effects).

But unless it's a blurry mess after being upscaled, from a practical standpoint it doesn't matter. You don't pay for games by the number of pixels per frame.

Funny you should say that when there are like 1 game on PS3 than can have 1080p and thats not even during gameplay. Every game on 360 can have 1080p although yes its upscaled, but at least it works. 1080p or higher is only for PC gaming currently or movies on blu ray or stream.

Gameplay was pretty darn good. I didn't realize it was sub-hd when I played it, so it obviously doesn't matter to me.

same opinion here

the gameplay is fantastic and the graphics look great on my TV

day one for me

Upscaled anything is not 1080p.

720x480 DVDs upscale to 1080p through an HDMI linked player; this does not make them 1080p.

This is no different from games. PS2 games upscaled to 1080p on a PS3 is the same thing as upscaling a 576p output game to 1080p other than starting with a lower native render output res (typically 480i).

Native output render resolution is the only number that should be referenced for any given software title for the purpose of comparing resolutions.

There are quite a few 1080p native output PS3 titles, but the vast majority of them are PSN titles that have lower 3D graphical overhead or are 2D bit mapped games.

this happens when you listen to comercials.

You can use almost every storage device to play true HD content. I have some on my HDD right now

Oh noes! This game doesn't have much graphics!

Looks good and fun, I will definitely pick this game up when it comes out.
