Meaning that if you have patience to work with a new system of battle with some challenge, you'll get your money's worth since you'll spend plenty of time getting better at it.

What about people who don't have any time to play every single game? FFXIII, Infinite Space, Red Steel 2 and God of War 3 have all come out within days of each other and I don't have time for a game that takes a long time to learn. Nearly all those games abide by the old axiom "Easy to play hard to master" Not "Hard to play hard to master".

When I spend my hard earned money on videogames, I expect to be entertained. "Get better at it"? Is this a multiplayer game? Can I apply the skills I learned through hours of training on Resonance of Fate anywhere else in the world? I doubt it.

You may like this challenge sure, but rest assured not everyone in the world does.

Perhaps. Did you watch "Signs" starring Mel Gibson?  Everything, even things that doesn't make sense at all , have a purpose.

The game IS a bit weird. I mean, the battle tutorials are in the Arena, but on my way there i got a random battle and i saw the game over screen like three times. Then, i just guessed how to battle, pressed all buttons etc. I hope it gets better cause so far i kinda hate it. :P

Which is why Game Informer gave FFXIII a 9.25 and Blue Dragon a 9. Right. Keep clinging to this silly conspiracy theory of yours.

I'm sure many of us don't have the free time we used to have when we were younger, I definitely don't. In fact, my back list of games is huge and going to get bigger as the year continues as I still plan to pick up Star Ocean, WKC and FFXIII; maybe Bayonetta and Heavy Rain too. (when they are cheaper of course) I picked this game over these others because I liked what Tri-Ace did with "Valkyrie Profile" and I loved what Sega showed me in "Valkyria Chronicles".

This may not be your cup of Tee burning_phoneix and if its not, just don't buy it. What I don't understand is why people defend or take to heart what they read from critics. It's just one person's opinion, not your own. Who made game critics the law in whats good and what's not. What could be tedious for someone, could be interesting for another gamer, or vice versa.

I never really cared about the review score from the beginning nor even the game itself. I was just flabergasted at all the "reviewers are biased against JRPGs!" and "They suck at the game so they gave it a low score" remarks when someone happens to not like the game mechanics of a title they have been anticipating.

I don't agree with all reviews or reviewers but the one thing I won't do is to dismiss their opinion out of hand because "they suck at the game" or "they're biased against a culture I like" becuase that argument is silly and provides nothing to an intelligent discussion.

Alright, so i no longer agree with this review.

Once you get the hang of the battle system it's really great. It's still a bit complex, since i don't remember half the tutorials (there were 16 of them, and unlike FF13 the battle system is completely open since the begining which can get quite confusing) but still... it's pretty good.

An 8 for me so far!

To tell you the truth, I've always thought the reviewer's opinion is based on how many games he or she has played leading up to the game being reviewed, if he likes the genre being played or if never cared for it. I'm always skeptical on their opinions because I know they have played more games than I have, in a different order that I have. Sure, they try to be fair on what they are playing, but I have a feeling that after playing so many games for a while it becomes a job; there are things you grow to like and dislike about the repetativeness of a job. I'm sorry, but I don't consider gamers as professionals because they have played more games than I do, and had good enough connections to get the job they hold now. The bachelor's degree doesn't impress me either because most people have one now, its required now to get a decent job/career.

Someone it this site posted a little while ago that "opinions are like assholes, everyone has one". (including myself) It made me giggle hearing it again since it rung true the first time I heard it. I will clarify;  the crap that comes out of someone's asshole is composed from the remains of what that person has consumed recently. If you need for me to explain more, think about your eating habits, and what drives your cravings.

Okay....I'm not exactly sure what point you're trying to make but I'm done here.
