Mass Effect 2 on 360 alone sold more than Final Fantasy XIII on 360+PS3!! Thats really bad for Final Fantasy franchise.

Umm...are you talking about America only or World-Wide excluding Japan?

Nevermind the fact that FFXIII beat Mass Effect 2 in Japan, only on PS3 "all by itself".

It's best to know the entire story before judging something.

I don't even need to mention that, since I'm positive he's referring to the West (I hope, at least).

This is North America thread so it's obvious that I was talking about NA only.

good sales for final fantasy. the sales for this one are better than the last one. i dont see how that can be bad for the franchise. anyway how the hell is the ps3 selling over 100k with the supply issues it is having?

The issues aren't as bad as some people made out?

poor sales for ff13, should have done 1 million across both consoles in NA alone.

i think game may drop of pretty quickly also, i guess wrpg are more popular now.

good numbers for ps3 and 360, ff13 helped.

The quality of FFXIII was not up to scratch. Gamers and reviewers have expressed very mixed feelings about FFXIII.  Gameplay in FFXIII is non existent. Just feels like going from one cut scene to the next. A little gameplay thrown in and a linear path way. Early impressions of a game are critical to gamers who just do not have the time or patience to endure a slow paced game. The graphics in the game were not even the best on HD consoles. MGS 4, Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 all have much better graphics than FFXIII.

WRPGs/Action/FPS games seem more popular than the same old JRPG. JRPGs have been a big let down to JRPG fans this generation.

Have you even played the game? It looks liked you haven't. Gameplay non-existent!? Slow paced!? Come on.

The battles are hard somtimes it may take you long enough to beat strong enemies and that's is not even the boss yet. FFXIII also has the best battles system in FF in IMO. It's freaking fast paced! Lot of motion is happening, Your opponent might kill you in a second if you don't pay attention and your opponent won't wait for you to input the abilities so you have to be quick in inputting the skills. You also have the shift paradigms so theres's a lot strategy involves. Gameplay non-existent and slow paced? that's bull man.

400k for FFXIII on PS3 is pretty dissapointing i think. Everywhere you go or if you turn on your tv or pc you see adverts for it everywhere. The advertising for it has been massive. To see it sell nearly half of what BC2 sold on 360 is very shocking to me. Yes one is a fps game and the other a RPG. But so is Dragon Age and that almost matched those sales. Mass Effect 2 nearly doubled those sales in its 1st week.

So if we roll back 6 months with all the hype, all the threads on here, the E3 announcement etc etc would people have expected it to sell just 400k on its 1st week? Can you call as series AAA with those kind of sales? Because if you do means your have to start calling a lot more games AAA if 400k is the boundry.

Another thing is what happens if we roll forwards a week when we see GOW3's numbers posted and they are similar to this FFXIII effect for both hardware and sales? PS3 went up around 15k on last week with FFXIII release. Will GOW3 really push hardware up further then that?

One thing is for sure, this week is PS3's big week. Beyond that they don't have the strength in line up of titles to match this weeks again this year. Unless GT5 comes out this year, which it most likely won't in my opinion.

Any other week and i would say those were great numbers. But this was the first FF game of this gen, so much hype for it over the years. To be happy with just 400k is just weird to me.

The PS3 version of FFXIII had a massive ads. or are you just talking about FFXIII in general?

Considering that XIII did more on PS3 and 360 than XII in NA week 1, it still doesn't make sense. How is it bad for Final Fantasy when the numbers have improved and probably would have even if it was still PS3-only, or at least matched XII's #s?

XII Week 1 - 571,945

XIII Week 1 - (PS3/360) - 672,000

The fanbase is split a bit, but the numbers state that XIII is performing better than XII did. It seems like people aren't checking the numbers to see how XIII is ACTUALLY performing for a Final Fantasy.

I thought Final Fantasy franchise is a lot bigger than Mass Effect so I expected it to sold more than Mass Effect 2.

Why compare it to XII?

Its the first FF of this generation so it should be compared to FFX imo.

Also in this gen games have much shorter legs than last gen, so its obvious that FF13 wont come near to the sales of FF12.

It's like MGS4. It was compared to Snake Eater, not Sons of Liberty.

Besides, we don't have the data for FFX's US Week 1 sales.

Even IF we compare FF13 to FF12 (what is stupid imo just like comparing MGS4 to MGS3 instead of MGS2) it still wont reach 5,7 million.

5,5 million units at MOST, the game doesnt have the best word of mouth, no MP and there are many good games coming out and games that are out that are much better than it - FF13 (going by metacritic)
