I wasn't paying attention until I saw this thread here, and saw how the freaking out began.  I likely wouldn't of given it much notice, then I posted my original message, which you commented on.  X to Jason is straight out of Deadly Premonition.


And he wonders why I think he's over defensive about Heavy Rain. I don't see how someone can have a problem making fun of one funny part of a game. I mean how many people laugh at stuff like the angry videogame nerd where most people haven't even played the games he rips.

A possibility here is that Heavy Rain is supposed to be more than just a videogame.  It has been elevated into a new genre defining experience that will hold the world in such awe, that they won't be able help think that the art of storytelling has passed from movies to videogames, by this one title.   And it will be such a huge lynchpin event, that even money that the world will end up buying PS3s in droves in order to JUST get this game.  It needs to be the killer app of this generation.  Anything short fo that will disappoint.

As far as I am concerned, any game that turns shaving into a minigame, unless it involves Wario, really doesn't do it for me.  If the story is that awesome, let me know when the move adaptation comes out.

By the way, I am not completely against videogames as a storytelling device.  I think Uncharted 2 is awesome.  I also cut Deadly Premonition a ton of slack, because the F K... in the coffee alone makes it a full of win experience.

I dunno.  Me i'm really looking foward to heavy rain.  Though I'm going to rent it.  Of course I was a huge "Choose your own adventure" fan.

I'm not really looking at it so much like a videogame as I am an interactive movie... but I like those.  There was one on PC that really kicked ass way back when I first got my computer about being on a submarine.

I didn't find the scene awful - it evoked too well that particular not too pleasant experience to fail that badly, but QD needed to give some variety there or simply remove the ability to call out at will after a few attempts.

Yeah, the scene itself wasn't awful, it was good in fact (though I don't think I've ever seen a mall that busy when it wasn't Christmas and I live around some ginormous busy malls) it was the fact he only had two calls and they both just didn't fit that well that made it laughably bad.

Yeah - no denying that hurt the scene.  It reminded me of Titanic, where the leads ran around shouting 'Jack' and 'Rose' at each other constantly like they couldn't remember their names for more than 10 seconds at a time.

I am one of the minority who thought this was a good scene. It's supposed to be frustrating people!

However, I think it is let down by the car crash. For the vehicle to have hit the child at a lethal speed it wouldn't just stop on the spot like that. So my first thought was 'thank god the kid's okay!'. When the mum started shouting 'Jason' it really broke the immersion that had been built up by the frantic fight through the crowd.

The only thing that has annoyed me more so far (I'm probably only half way through) is the way they introduce the tagline 'how far would you go to save someone you love?'. I was thinking 'certainly not as far as driving the wrong way down an expressway on the say so of a psychopath'. But there is no option to decline the invitation. So the only way I could show 'how far I would go to save someone I love' was by turning off the game. I usually love well-scripted linear games, but I don't like it when a game advertises choices that don't actually exist. It would have been so easy for them to put the choice in there - you'd simply skip the driving QTEs and go straight to meeting Madison at the motel, minus cuts and scrapes. As it is it's poor design.

Other than that it's been great, wonderful graphics and really unique - 9/10 for me thus far.



I agree! The inability to decline that section was lame at best.
