Forums - Gaming - Why SE focused on 360 Advertising for FFXlll

also, as I have stated, I think Sony put all their money on GoW3 ads+bundle

Exclusive games cost less money to bundle and each software purchase give you more money than a third party game.

MS simply bought ads, like they bought the exclusive bundle.

MS accepted to help them advertise the game and they got the exclusivity in the same time
+ an exclusive bundle (of course MS is paying the game included in it too)

Sony did it for Assassin Creed 2 (perhaps the 1 too)

Link?

The real reason is that everyone knows that FF13 is on PS3 and SE just wants the 360 version to sell and make profits.

then u advertise the 2 consoles since u get money from the 2 consoles ...

considering how the bundle are only on 360 and the ads are only for the 360, it is obvious MS paied for it

But, AGAIN, it is not news, Sony did it too.

I misread what your originally put, i agree with you now.

MS payed for the advertisement period.

Here in germany I have seen seperate adverts for the X-Box 360 and the PS3 version.

Before I begin let me state that I am not here to troll on Sony as I am and always will be a huge Sony supporter; I just now understand why SE chose to focus on xbox360 advertising for FF13. As they wanted to explore the possiblity of making multi-platform FF's, they had to grab as uch of the 360 install base as possible. SE knew that all PS3 owners were aware of FF13 and were already committed to their purchase, so they tried to generate as many sales as possible for the 360 which was going to be a tougher sell (which we saw with the 450,000 first week). Advertising FF13 to PS3 owners is the equivalent of advertising Monster hunter in Japan (it's just not necessary).

As bitter as I was, I now understand

this is what I've been saying all along.

@kowen

Of course, there should be some speculative reasoning that SE's deal with multiplat FF included media barrage. Through this, SE kills two birds with one stone, right?

Well, on a perfect world i would agree with the OP. But, we know that almost everything is about money. I prefer not to be naïve and i believe MS paid $$$$$$$$$$$$ for Square-Enix. In the end, results are poor for MS (they believed to outsell PS3 version ) and great for Sony. So, who won? Us (PS3 + XBox360 users) and Sony.

SE advertised the game?

4 ≈ One

yea i also beleive that fat ba***rd Mr. Gates paid SE a nice lump for exclusive advertising, and why wouldn't he, surely he knew just like the rest of us that a FinalFantasy game would have far more PS3 interest. I myself have a handful of friends with 360s who say that they've never even played ANY FF game in the past and have no interest in them, where as most PS3 owners have played them from FF7, if not earlier. M-Soft were most likely cacking in their pants worrying about precious sales. A typical case of "if you cant beat the opposition, criple them".....the usual cowardly move. In my opinion, Sony dont need to advertise with such a big franchise because the loyal fanbase are already on the ball and are eagerly waiting, and i'd say the same for GoW3, Sony probably will advertise their mighty exclusive...but do they really need to????

Unless SE are crazy they wouldn't have paid for any advert that only noted 360 as a platform. Those should have been vendor funded as part of a promotional contract by MS. Unless, noted, SE are crazy - which I doubt.

Otherwise though you're quite correct. In fact, when you think about it, SE got good sales in Japan and backed Sony there where it counted most to the title, almost certainly got the main TV ads in US/UK funded by MS (I don't know about elsewhere) and I'm sure got the sales on PS3 they would have anyway plus the best shot at decent 360 sales to add to their haul.

Not bad - and I have to suspect Sony might have slipped them a little something to keep FFXIII off 360 in Asia, too... so not bad playing both ends against the middle by SE really.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
