i can assure you that PS4 will launch no later than 2012.PS2 was number 1 console and still sony released PS3 6 years after PS2

so 2012 is the most likely scenario for PS4.

yeah but devs relesed so many games for the ps2. square released (im not sure) like 3 final fantasy games. Kojima released 3 metal gear solid games.

2016 seem a little too far but I agree. Ps3 has got everything it's need to hold on for the years to come. it has got an adequate media (blu-ray), powerful hardware, and soon motion controls and 3D capability.

maybe a little far for microsoft but i think sony will take advantage of Ultra HD

Do you believe that the RSX has the necessary fill rate for Ultra HD definitions, when no 3D game of all of the PS3 library run at 1920x1080 30 frames per second with decent/complex graphics? Nonsense.

im talking about the ps4. I think sony will release the ps4 when ultra hd comes out

the use of the RSX will hopefully be phased out by the cell by 2012, only being used once the cell is maxed out

correct me if I am wrong
stop me if I am bias
I love a good civilised debate (but only if we can learn something).

Do you know that the cell doesn't have the neccesary fixed function silicon to be effective in these type of works?

I think that no new consoles from sony and microsoft are going to be released anytime soon, because:

- Move and Natal will launch this year (They will definitely prolongue the consoles life)
- Developers are beginning to become more efficient with HD consoles, Higher Tech engines in these economic times will result in higher costs that third parties will surely want to avoid.
- Console manufactures began profiting from consoles (360), or finally began to profit from consoles (PS3)
- Big budget games will take forever to be made (FF, MGS comes to mind, FF XIII took 4 years !!!!)

Only Nintendo will launch a new console soon, and by a new console i mean an enhanced Wii

Currently Playing: Final Fantasy XIII (PS3), White Knight Chronicles (PS3), PES 2010 (PS3), Killzone 2 (PS3)

Games to Finish: Silent hill Homecoming (PS3), Valkyria Chronicles (PS3), Oblivion (PS3)

They will respond to the competition if they release their next gen games.......unless they would like to be third place again next gen.

Once the next gen starts , this gen will be outdated.....most will move on.

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

yeah..not in atleast 4 years.

I guess you mean 4K (also known as Super Hi-Vision) resolution but personally I don't see that resolution becoming mainstream for at least 10 years, And the PS3 and X360 can't even do games at 1080p reliably. As for the low number of games from major studios that is because of the increased workload that goes into a game today yes but is also because of the level of polish these developers demand from their games and the time it takes to create a game engine (something all these developers did) which PS3 developers were forced to do if they wanted good results on the PS3 (because of it's architecture) if you look at most of the developers I think you will find that they only put out 2-4 games last gen anyway.

The advantages of moving to a new generation for Microsoft in the next 2 years are quite great, they could move far ahead of the PS3 in technical power levels (over nine thousand) and they would lose some of the stigma over RRoD etc while allowing them to focus on more digital distribution. Microsoft won't have to take the 360 off the market like they did with the Xbox so they will keep that on the market to combat the PS3. Now why is this relevant you ask well Sony won't want to give Microsoft another big head start on the next generation and Sony would have the opportunity to move to a more conventional architecture making it easier for multi-platform developers (who are now very important)

The difference between the PS2 and PS3 is the PS2 was very profitable.  Sony is just now starting to make profit or break even with the PS3.  They need time to recoup some of the money they have invested in the PS3.  The only way Sony puts out the PS4 in 2012 is if the PS3 just flat out won't sell, and they are forced to.  I don't see that happening.

2012 might be a likely scenario for the next Wii, but it is to early for the PS4 or the Xbox720 (or what ever they end up calling them)

Why would Nintendo be the first to launch a new console when they are selling by far the most?
