Woopah, Nintendo have reported the above games to be supply constrained. ebay prices for Wii Fit plus are also higher than retail prices again.

I think he's underestimating the relevance of Red Steel 2 and Monster Hunter Tri, but that's fine, I can see why someone like Pachter could get blindsided by them.

really? you really think monster hunter tri and red steel 2 can push hardware like god of war 3, GT5 and MOVE can?

I'll give you GOW3, but when exactly will GT5 and Move come out? Say again? So until May, all Sony has is GOW3. Drop off the Rage of the Galdiator argument, but MH3 IS a system seller.

Currently Playing: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked, Professor Layton and the Curious Village

Anticipating: Xenoblade, The Last Story, Mario Kart 7, Rayman Origins, Zelda SS, Crush3D, Tales of the Abyss 3DS, MGS:Snake Eater 3DS, RE:Revelations, Time Travellers, Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, Luigi's Mansion 2, MH TriG, DQ Monsters, Heroes of Ruin

One reason why Wii Play sales may be 'starting to fade' is because it's already sold 27 million copies. Does he expect it'll sell units forever? Good lord. I think he does the Wii a disservice by ignoring MH3 and RS2, as you said. And I'm quite sure that Nintendo has something else up its sleeve for later this year, and we just don't know it yet. I think it's a lot of guessing, but not very good guessing.

Bah!

1) Patcher is probably a more reliable source of information then someone on a random person on the internet. So I'll agree with him on that point.

2) Depends on the definition of excitement. It seems as though the author defines it as games that they're interested in playing. Patcher likely has another definition, i.e. games that will have a significant impact on the market.

3) That's a good question. As an investor you want your money to earn money. Right now it does not look like the Wii will have growth over the next couple of months. Yes is sells more then the PS3 and X360... but that doesn't mean your money will grow.

As an example, you might make more money by investing in PS3 market share that grows vs. a wii market hare that stays stagnant even if it sells twice as much.

constraints is bullshit nintendo is probably undershipping to raise the prices of how much they sell it to retailers for Or demand is decreasing.

In Japan.

  • 2010 MUST Haves: WKC, Heavy Rain, GoWIII, Fable III, Mass Effect 2, Bayonetta, Darksiders, FFXIII, Alan Wake, No More Heroes 2, Fragile Dreams: FRotM, Trinity: SoZ, BFBC2.
  • Older Need To Buys: Super Mario Bros. Wii, Mario Kart Wii, Deadspace, Demon's Souls, Uncharted 2.

There is definitely more to list that I want, but that's my main focus there.

And you say that based on what facts?

Fact 1: Nintendo has lowered at some point last year its expectations for the FY that ends March 2010 and reduced production

Fact 2: Wii had a record breaking month in December 2009, not just by Wii standards but by any standard, selling in the US 3.8 million consoles. The previous record holder was the PS2 around 2004 or so, with 2.8 million. Along with these new consoles, a lot of Wii Fit Plus with balance board and Wii Play were sold.

Combine the two facts (reduced production and totally unanticipated level of sales), and you have reall supply constraints.

We'll have to agree to disagree. Only anecdotal evidence at this point, but I keep encountering "I only bought a Wii ro play MH" posts, something I never saw for any other game. I agree it won't be as much a system seller as it is in Japan though.

my point still stands they lowered production. they arent using all the factories they have at 100% so they are undershipping. they made theyre own constraints.

People said the same thing about Final Fantasy and Pokemon once upon a time.  I wouldn't underestimate MH3, if anyone can make it a success, it's Nintendo.  Look at what they've done for Layton.
