Forums - Nintendo - IGN: 2010, Year of the Wii

I for one left cause I couldn't stand reading their game reviews anymore....

Around the Network

Less than 2% of Wii games scored 9.0 or above in 2008, with that only marginally improving to 2.1% in 2009. Again, this compares very unfavourably with the 360 (over 5% in 2008 and 6.7% in 2009) and the PS3 (over 10% in 2008 and 11.92% in 2009).

CMON, its not like were not aware of the 1 point deficiency on all Wii reviews, because of some magical reason that only applies to Wii games.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

But... but... I thought Wii owners hated IGN because of some random guys blog!?

About once a month they post editorials that argue things like "Nintendo is lazy and its fans don't care" because New Super Mario Bros. Wii has no online multiplayer.  They also trolled Nintendo in a Nintendo-only podcast, and then admitted they only did it for the hits.  The article in the OP argues that the Wii games are the worst, and proves this with their own low reviews for the Wii.

Now only 2 or 3% of their entire traffic is from their Wii section, and even less is from the DS section.  Either they never had a Nintendo fanbase or they chased their Nintendo fans out of town.

Where did you get these statistics? Not that they sound wrong, but i'm wondering if they admitted that, or you have some outside source.

Since I posted that topic, I thought I would respond.

Below is the lead (first) sentence of the story posted in the OP.

It's been hard for passionate gamers to keep the faith over the last few years as far as the Wii is concerned. For all its strengths, the system just hasn't been delivering for the core audience.

In other words, even when IGN means to praise the Wii, it condemns it.

And you can lie with statistics.  One reason for the Wii having such a higher proportion of poorly reviewed titles is the sheer volume of shovelware released on the system -- because it is the leader (its sold more units than the other two systems combined since its release). Another is that given its lower specs, it generates lower reviews (because review sites like IGN like graphics) and more to this point, because it has made it possible to port over late PS2 cash ins which did not look good on that system (and probably weren't even reviewed) to the Wii.  (For example, some of the titles in NA released by Conspiracy and UFO started were released on the PS2 in some or all PAL territories).

So now that the Wii has a some really strong software (because Nintendo is on round two and some parties appear to have tried to do something over the last couple of years instead of just complain about poor sales for games they did not advertise or that would appeal to a very small audience regardless of console), IGN is trying to make "nice nice."

....

Well, at least its better than Game Informer putting the Wii review of multiplatform games on its website (and not in the magazine), even though its own survey (albeit 18 months ago) showed more Wii owners read GI than PS3 owners.

IGN is wierd, they say the Wii is lazy, then they say the Wii is hardcore, then they say the Wii is slipping because the 360 beat them in Febuary NPD sales, and now this.

The Wii will have great success this year.

Seeking forgiveness, IGN is.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

So that whole article was saying "The Wii was the stupidest console ever made, it had no real games, and was only for casual losers... until 2010. Now it's finally having an okay year."

At least they remembered No More Heroes 2 this time. They left it out of their last "Hey this pathetic joke of a system is getting some good games this year" article. The one that started with Max and the Magic Marker.

this is what my thread was about

[...] and the PS3 (over 10% in 2008 and 11.92% in 2009) [...]

this is kinda ridiculous... 1 out of every 10 titles AAA?

I think hating something (ign) is practically loving it. cause you think about it. it´s just the other side of the coin. if you hate them you´re bringing attention to them, if you really want to hurt them just IGNore them :)
