Forums - Gaming - Final Fantasy XIII better than Final Fantasy XII?

I came in here because I couldn't help doing it.

Me not commenting is partially thanks to me not playing FFXIII yet - and not playing it for some months yet - and partially because I love you guys.

This counts as your freaking Christmas presents!

Better? I think so. Far better? Goodness, no. FFXII was an amazing game.

Finally someone knows what they are talking about, pearljammer, take a bow

No, just no. FFXII had dry characters and an almost non-existent storyline.

oh, my bad.  I forgot how awesome Hope is in FF XIII, makes Vaun look like a stud!

Yeah, Hope is a great character. He actually has a purpose in the storyline. Also, who is Vaun?

Vaun was the main character that had no reason to be there, best way to sum him up and then Penelo had even less reason to be there.

Huh? I don't remember a "Vaan" being in FFXII. Wasn't Asch the main character? And who is Penelo?

Come on now

thats just an insult to FF12

The character weren't "that" boring......lol I refuse to believe you forgot some of the main cast o FF12

unless this is a joke....

I may try to play FFXII again one day as I only got up to some point where I returned from some place of an old king or something and returned to this mountain area where some old dude was killed.

It's been so long since I played that game.

At what point does it's story and/or character become interesting?

The characters NEVER really become interesting, except for balthier and a certain plot element that takes place.

In terms of story.....it just never really picks up pace big time....and imo completely falls apart towards the end (as do most FF stories lol)

Near the end you do go to some cool places though.....I'm trying to be as less spoilerific as possible just in case you wanna try it again.

But the ending FMV & song are great, definetely one of the best FF endings, 3rd behind FF6 & FF10.

But Go & play it again....cus so many critics can't be wrong can they?

No, I take back what I said. I would actually be like Lightning and end humanity but killing Eden. GOD Lightning is awesome.

DEAR GOD TELL ME THAT'S NOT WHAT HAPPENS! MY MOUSE WENT ALL CRAZY AND I ACCIDENTALY READ THAT!! NOOOOO!!

*suicides*

I completely agree. 12 was kind of a mess gameplay and story wise, but it wasn't the worst FF. That crown goes to X-2.

Why do so many people dislike Vanille by the way? I think her character is fine, as well as Hope's.

Was a child who watched his mother die supposed to have
a Kratos' style attitude and be all bad ass? He is a kid. His character makes sense.

Thats a BIG spoiler euphoria

anyway I agree with you on hope

{spoilers up to chapter 3 below)

seriously he saw his mother die, got turned into a l'cie (which he saw as monsters since his childhood), he got turned into one cus some moody cow who he had never met decided to attack a fal'cie with a sword....ermm if he did anything but whine I would be shocked.....

Put on top of that the fact that if he doesn't complete his focus he will turn into a monster. His character makes completely sense.

To top it off he's ONLY 14 Years Old.

If I was in his position I dunno, I would either be crying non stop or I would have suicided or simply had a nervous brakdown

he's shown some great strength imo.

*small spoiler ahead for chapter 1* Read at your own risk:

...

But it doesn't make him any more likable to me, although you're right in the sense that he's acting almost believably for a 14 year old that just saw his mum went the way of the dodo (and yes that's probably the part that doesn't appeal to me). Still there's some baffling scene even starting for Chapter 1.

For example: rhe absolutely retarded setting in which they went to the Pulse fal'Cie had me scratching my head though.

We're in the middle of a warzone! The enemy has flying freakin ship with BIG HONKING LASER going pew pew pew and people are dying left and right (including hope's mother!) and what the hell does he do? By himself, probably nothing as initially he reminds me way to much of Shinji from Eva, but damn with Vanille by his side, they freakin hijack a damn flying chicken leg and flew TOWARDS the epicentre of the fight in an effort to tell Snow that he killed his mum and needs to pay (which he never gets to say until chapter 5-6 or something.)

I mean good god! Talk about suicidal tendency and the 'yes mistress' syndrome here!

God thats stupid. Especially Vanille alloying a stupid kid to drive the flying chicken leg and almost crashing to their doom and taking him into unknown danger: a 14 year old kid!!!!

She acts like the village idiot most of the time and the fustrating thing is that I KNOW the reason they made her like this.

She's the typical 'Genki Girl' architype that is very very popular in Japanese otaku culture and having a Genki Girl in an Final Fantasy is almost a mandate: 'Yuffie, Selphie, Riku etc'. The problem here is that they didn't manage to translate her well into English, a lot of personality is lost thanks to the unique (and often childish) expression and idioms being left out, dropped or simply ignored because their is no comparable in English.

I blame this on the lack of 'moe' in western culture and learn to live with it.

Bah /rant over

Can you please elaborate on how 12 was a mess of gameplay when it was the FF game with the largest amount of strategy if you tried to play it without any gambits on?

And about the story, I won't even go there, since we could prolongue that discussion for a too large amount of pages :P

i actually liked FFX-2, kind of, not particularly the story but gameplay, battle system and the dress spheres were pretty cool, i think it would have been better if it hadnt of existed but heyho it did and i finished it, and that was it and went back to FFX afterwards :D

End of 2014 Hardware Predictions (03/03/14)

PlayStation 4: 12-15million

Xbox One: 7-10 million

Wii U: 8-9 million (Changed 01/04/2014 from 7-9 --> 8-9 million)

FFXII is a modern classic right there with Ocarina of time, MGS and FFVII, while FFXIII is a game that's feels rushed (admitted by the director) and more like a solid 8 game.

XII is bigger, better and just more fun to play.
