America's support decline evry time they heard the game has been delayed.

It has very little to do with delay.

The main reason is that racing games are not your typical online game (the north-american console market is ahead of others online-wise).

The second main reason would be that having a western console with two great complementary racing franchises, one arcadey (PGR) and the other a true sim (forza), obviously gave north americans alternatives.

Should be mentionned also that Polyphony Digital having had development issues with the fifth installment (GT5hd then Prologue then wait... wait... 2010?) has given the fans a lot of time to look elsewhere and GT5 should perform even worse than expected because of that.

- GT4 had no online, was supposed to have it.  The NA market was egerly awaiting it then it was cut and many many people said F that.

- Need for Speed was a 6 million seller, it did not hurt GT sales.

- WTF what dev issues.

Dude demo - 4.5 million.  Its not hard to figure that GT is as strong as ever.

well i'm an american, and will definitely be buying it first day. so who knows.

i will always stay cold

Forza

*snickers* trolling... and a very weak troll attempt at that.

How is that trolling? There has been 3 Forza games in the time that it took them to make 1 GT game. GT is irrelivant to most people now-a-days.

Forza hasn't sold enough to take away from gran turismo. 5m lost sales is the combined total of all forza's? i might be alittle off there.  But no i don' think forza would have stolen gran turismo fans, people do actually buy more than 1 game.  Honestly i think it is what has been stated that people are more interested in the first title that comes out on the system, and i think a major part of this is the fantastic graphics, and also the next game simply being more of the same (its just car racing) so only hardcore fans would buy the second game (gt2, gt4).

GT5 will be the biggest selling exclusive on PS3, id be will to make that bet with anyone.

Yeah its that irrelivant that the 40$ demo of GT5 outsold the definitive racing sim (also known as Forza 3) 1,8:1

Funny how many people just tend to ignore some important facts...

Wow what an achievement a much more popular game that has been out much much longer than Forza 3, with its starting price at $40 and has had bundles in japan/europe outsold a lesser known game....lol get real man...

My point doesnt mean Forza is more popular because it isn't......its no where near, but don't make silly comparisons.....

But the problem is, it isnt really a game its a demo you have to pay for, GT5 will probably outsell it 5:1

even forza 2 which is out much longer than GT5:P, had more bundles and is a full game sold less than it (4 vs 4,7 million)

I think the bundle factor plays a major role here
I got my first ps2 with GT3 and I later bought GT 4, but it was never bundled

It has nascar! so cool beans

LMAO @ Forza comments!

Serzly not even worthy of being mentioned beside GT.

I've never really been into racing games, but even I'm excited for Gran Turismo 5. Doing a little research on the series, I've really gained a lot of respect for GT, and will almost definitely purchase GT5 (never thought I would purchase a racing game). Anyways, in my research, I looked up past sales of GT3 and GT4 on ps2. I was surprised by the significantly decreased sales of GT4 compared to GT3 (GT4-->10.52million; GT3-->14.89million), and realized that it is entirely due to a SIGNIFICANT decrease in sales in the Americas! GT3: Americas-->7.14mill VS. GT4: Americas-->2.79mill!!!!  What is that??? That's a HUGE loss of support in the Americas! An additional note...Americas used to beat out Others in sales or at least be close for all the other GT's. Others' sales only get bigger with each new GT, but since GT4 (including GT5:P), Americas' sales are decreasing and are no where close to Others'...

Anyways, thoughts?? This is kind of disappointing to me, but I really hope that GT5 revives the series in the Americas.

(side note....I've been thinking this for a while:  While I wish GT5 wasn't taking so long to release, it isn't the only game that's been continuously delayed/taken a long time for production. Alan Wake will have been in production for 6 years when it will finally be released this May...if it indeed does release then...plus, Splinter Cell: Conviction has been delayed a crazy amount of times and been in production for many years also; yet it seems people are bashing GT5 for the time situation a lot more than these other games.)

When Gran Turismo first came out, it was tops at what it did, and was new.  Since then, the driving sim market has increased, and there are more options.  The genre has matured.

GT3 was bundled in NA thus the high sale.

GT will sell 2.5 million plus in NA easily plus another 6 million in others.

for those who brought up Forza.

GT5 PR = .95 M
Forza 3 = .97M

in NA.
