Have you played Kotor1 and Jade Empire then?

I've played Jade Empire.  It was alright.  I don't HATE WRPGs, they're just second rate to me.  I'll still take a WRPG over a shooter anytime, any day.  But I just grew up playing JRPGs--they're what made me a gamer.  A lot of the younger generations didn't have that opportunity so they've fallen in love with action and button mashing rather than a tear-evoking, cut-scene filled story.

yea since SNES really had a lot of tear evoking cutscenes right?

You don't have to be a smart butt.  I didn't say anything about SNES having cutscenes.  Heck, I realize that--I'm 30 and have been gaming my whole life.  I had an Atari and Sega Genesis, etc  It was just a casual thing with buddies before I got ahold of FF.  That was when I officially quit playing on the PC. The ps2 is over 10 years old now.  That makes your current 13 year old teenager that loves his shooters and gore filled action games a little too young to remember a lot of the games that I played when I was in high school.

Eitherway, it doesn't matter.  I enjoy the WRPG to a degree--but I'll always prefer JRPGs.  Different strokes for different folks.  Good for those that like WRPGs better--it doesn't matter to me--just putting my own opinion out there.

Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion and tastes not everyone will like every genre(I hate horror games!). Just like Ragebot hating Kotor is fine. However not every game is about story some are also about the funfactor! Since if that was the case the Wii would be doomed~~. And shooters are actually quite fun too:)

I realize that.  I like other genres too.  Rock Band for one--I'm top 500 in the world on guitar.  I'm just saying that I personally don't like shooters and that I prefer JRPGs over WRPGs.  And I feel that part of that is my generation--we grew up playing different games than the younger generation like my 10 & 12 year old nephews.  Not a big deal, but I still find that my FAVORITE type of game PERSONALLY--is one that is heavily story driven.  I didn't say that others need to agree.

i agree 100%  Most of these people rushing to FFXIII's defense know nothing about about the older jrpg's we played growing up.  Button smasher aka..gamers 20 and younger play on a 360, most older have both play PS3 90% of the time due to the quality of the jrpgs.  eg.. Star Ocean International is so awesome on the ps3 but crap on the 360

Actually, have you stopped to consider that many people defending FFXIII have actually been long time RPG fans as well?

You're making so much leaps in judgment, it's not actually funny. Oh and about the quality of JRPG's on PS3 or 360, Lost Odyssey would like to give you a word.

who?

who?

Since you're so RPG saavy, I'll leave it for you to discover, but it's an actual shame that some who preaches so much about RPG's, doesn't know anything about one of the best console JRPG's of this gen, which brings your points to a certain moot ;)

i agree with lestatdark, i am one of the younger generations your talking about, being 17, and i have played FFIII, ChronoTrigger, FFVI, FFVII, and onwards. Button-mashers are bad games unless done right and FPSs have actually gotten worse and repetitive because there are just too many "good" ones its all people seem to be playing, i admit it that alot of my generation dont play "proper" games and only go as far as shooters and sports but there are quite a few of us that play JRPGs almost religiously, more than i first thought aswel. Also yes alot of gamers 20 and under have a X360 but again sweeping statement and most of my friends have a PS3 and a Wii, not an X360 in sight. Those with only a X360 has quickly diminished aswel and quite a few people have bought a PS3. Star Ocean is a brilliant game on the PS3 it must be said, as is FFXIII.

Remember tho, consoles are also a hell of a lot more popular now than when you were growing up (Im in that generation as well).  If you had a console, you were introduced into the world of JRPGs.  If you did not, you played WRPGs on the PC.  Games like Dragon Wars, Wizardry, Stone Keep and Bards Tales come to mind.  I personally prefer JRPGs as well (I probably love Anime more than any other form of entertainment) but that does not mean I do not love my WRPGs as well.

Have you considered joining a cult? Or taking a religion? You would do quite fine!

ok,did you just say "one of the best console JRPG's of this gen" talking about the 360's Lost Odyssey. You really are starved for a good rpg.

I don't agree. It may have something to do with you buying it for the 360 :/

  Unleash The Beast!

End of 2011 Sales: Wii = 90mil, 360 = 61mil, PS3= 60mil

With the FF XIII bombing, and yes, I know people are gonna rush to it's defense and western style rpg's dominating the landscape.  Is it safe to say that ps2 style jrpgs (that I love the most, thank you) and FF are doomed?

Sooner or later a brands reputation will stop selling the product and will need the product to actually be good.  I think FF XIII being the only FF game to be considered bad might be ok for a while but the next FF must live up to it reputaion of past successes.

With Fallout Vegas on the horizon and pepole still playing Fallout and western like type games.  I think maybe we should be be getting ready to send flowers and cards to the jrpg/FF funeral hall.

By the way, FF X-2 and FF XII are my favorite FF games and two of my all time favorite games

Look on handhelds.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

Lost Odyssey is a good game. Not amazing but its still very enjoyable. The 1000 Years of Dreams stories are INCREDIBLE though.
