Forums - Microsoft - Why Halo Reach will outsell Halo 3

I don't think Halo Reach will outsell Halo 3.

I think whoring out the Halo name for Halo Wars damaged the franchise. To this day people ask me if Halo Reach is a "Shooter". ODST didn't help either.

The biggest problem with Halo Reach is that the hardcore fanbase is not hyping it or supporting it, and it's no longer "the game to play" it's just a strong shooter. All my Halo 3 buddies are on Black Ops.

Other problems holding Reach Back

*Armor Lock (this makes the noob-tube look like a skilled weapon)
*Friendly Fire and Betrayal Booting (it's mostly abused by stupid assholes, get rid of it)
*Arena, who the fuck thought this was a good idea? It's the main way to "Rank Up", and it's one of the least populated playlists
*Removal of Halo 3 ranking system
*Lack of "Classic Halo" playlist, everybody voted for it when it would come up, but Bungie got rid of it.
*Bloom, it just doesn't work well with this game

These are the most common complaints, and they are everywhere you go. Bungie changed the game to appeal to all the haters, and they basically "threw the baby out with the bathwater".

Note: Black Ops' Zombie Mode (XBL) has more players than the entire Halo Reach population. If that's not getting your ass whooped, I don't know what is.

Halo Wars was an awesome title, but they should have co-released a PC version. For anyone half interested in the underlying story in Reach, Halo Wars was an essential game

ODST was whoring the franchise a little, but technically it cut Halo 3 sales as it has Halo 3 multiplayer with all map packs. So that could help Reach in the end.

You are right about hardcore fans not hyping the game, it's probably because the core gameplay mechanics are not very different from prior Halo's. Okay a few new weapons, abilities and multiplayer firefight matchmaking. Big deal, it's been 3 years, I think people expected more. Having 1/3rd the maps old map remakes doesn't help much either, and if the Noble Map pack were part of the original package, it would have helped sales and reviews.

as for your * comments, I only agree with Armor Lock. It's really annoying, and "Classic Halo" is cool too. Betryal Botting has always been a part of Halo, so I dunno what your talking about. I hate when losers just decide to stop playing, and do stupid things. Arena is really fun when you play seriously, I think most clan gamers appreciate it. Ranking I think is really well done in Halo 3, and daily challenges really encourage me to play longer and more frequently.

CoD BO is a beast and a half though, Bungie really let Halo down when they left.

Yeah but it just doesn't work in Reach, they need to offer a Harcore playlist for those that want it. There is a reason why so few games have friendly fire, too many douche bags. It was never this bad in Halo 3.

As soon as I grab the sniper or any weapon/vehicle that someone else wanted, you can bet that some stupid ass is going to start taking pop shots at me so that I get killed and they can grab it. If you grab the Scorpion Tank, there's like a 50/50 chance that some asshole will stand in front of your cannon so that you kill them and they can boot you.

I can't count how many times I have destroyed the other team with 30 k/d because they blew up their own tank from the in-fighting and were completely defenseless against my Tank.

I'm sure Halo Wars was a good game, but it really damaged the brand recognition. People seem to think that if it isn't Halo 4, is must be some spinoff.

I disagree about Halo Reach not changing in core gameplay, I think they changed it too much. Adding health, slowing down the gameplay, removing dual-wielding, removing the much loved Battle Rifle, adding a visual indicator for the weapon spread (Bloom), many people didn't like what the game turned into so they stopped playing.

Meanwhile COD is the same shit year after year, and people flock to it every time.

well i like your reason why it will outsell halo 3 but with the new halo coming up next year i don't think so.

btw halo 3 had 3 years to itself by 2012 ps3 and xbox 360 games won't be able to really sell.

so i'm gonna have to say 10-10.5 million max

Over time, as the 360 got cheaper, parents bought their kids 360's and with Halo so big now, your basically a kid killer for playing online.

Whatever playlist you play in Reach, that sucks, but your right they should have a mode where friendly fire is turned off. I have never had it that bad, just get those really bad players who grenade everything and kill a lot of team members, or suicide a lot.

Halo Wars was a game made for hardcore fans of the series. It really focuesed on the overlying Halo story, and playing it made Halo Reach noticably more impactful. However your right, two spinoffs and then a prequel, and next a possible remake? Get on with Halo 4 already, that game would sell 15 million if it came out in 2011.

As for Halo changing, I dunno. Halo 2 was the only real change in Halo IMO, all Halo 3 really did was introduce bubble sheilds and those x-button specials, and Reach introduced health and armor upgrades. Yea they took away the battle rifle, but now the magnum has scope again, as it did in Halo 1, and the DMR is not that much different then the BR. I think the biggest drawback of Reach is the lack of multiplayer maps, and the heavy relying on old remade maps.

COD... is really dumb. I mean it's a fun game online, but the game never comes down in price, and why would I pay full price for what is essentially Modern Warfare 1 with co-op and new maps? Thats why the last CoD I own is CoD4, but I did play MW2 extensivly.

So to be honest, I dunno how well Reach will do. No one here argues 10 million, I think it will creep past 11 million, and to be honest I really beleive that in 5 years time the game will just pass 12 million, but only time will tell.

Well ODST did come out 2 years after Halo 3, and it included all of Halo 3's multiplayer maps, with all map packs. So that could have cut sales.

Also the new 2011 Halo is only a rumor, and it's rumored to be a Halo 1 remake, so who knows, it could boost sales to Reach as it's a direct sequel.

I dont think halo reach will outsell halo 3 and my reason is that Halo is not much of that console defining shooter anymore for the 360. COD is unfortunately. Also personally i did not enjoy halo reach and i am a guy who bought all of the halos 1st day and both legendary editions of halo 3 and halo reach
