Forums - Microsoft - Why Halo Reach will outsell Halo 3

I'll make it simple. It won't outsell Halo 3.

It doesn't matter how much stuff you are writing, predictions or whatever. It won't happen.

I remember when X360 fans were saying the same thing for Halo 3 OSDT and after seeing the sales, they changed their mind and end up saying it was JUST an expansion.

It will still sell millions.

I'll make a prediction, if it doesn't oversell Halo 3, what are X360 fans going to say? "It's just a prequel"

And if that happens, I bet no X360 fans will apologize to us for being so rock-head and attaking us so hard. If it oversells Halo 3, I'll do it, that's for sure.

I hope you are getting that apology ready. Halo:Reach is set to have the biggest opening weekend in history for a single console. Should pass Halo 3 sales within 6 months.

Reach to beat MW2 on 360.

Cant wait to see new pre orders this week for Reach.

Won't happen. Really guys, I'm a x360 fan and your predictions are making all of us look bad. I can give you a nice list of a bunch of games that didn't outsell the game they followed on the PS2 even though install base was doubled.

MGS2 was released when there was 15.5m PS2 install base and sold 5.58m copies. MSG3 (the prequel like Reach will be) had a 73.5m PS2 install base and only sold 4m copies.

Lemme put it this way... a friend of mine and I are not that interested in getting Halo Reach. YOU'RE TELLING ME that you are going to find 2 people that DIDN'T buy Halo 3 that are going to go buy Halo Reach???

Come on, lets get real. It's a prequel!

Well, if you wanna get technical. I have Halo 3 used, so when I buy Halo: Reach first day, I will be included in those figures whereas I'm not in Halo 3's. Also, Halo 2 > Halo 1. Just because Microsoft has a lot of Halo games does not mean everyone who could possibly be interested in Halo has already bought them.

Likewise I will likely buy Halo Reach used. I'm not hyped on Halo Reach like I was on Halo 3. Halo 3 was the shit..."Finish the Fight!". Halo Reach is....meh...that book I read about Reach that doesn't include Master Chief and I already know the outcome of. Trust me, there are plenty of people like me that aren't hyped for Reach.

And i'm pretty sure it's a safe to say that people who purchased Halo 3 used aren't going to be in long lines on launch day for Reach.

I bought Halo 2 and 3 used, and I have already preordered Halo Reach.

Past Avatar picture!!!

Don't forget your helmet there, Master Chief!

It won't outsell Halo 3 imo.

1. Halo 3 was end of the trilogy and Reach is prequel. I just don't see same kind of enthusiasm within mainstream audience for prequel as for last game in trilogy. '' Finish the fight'' was pretty catchy phrase.

2. This time around it has a lot more competition than in 2007/2008. Call of Duty is even bigger series nowadays and it will get new entry this year (pre-orders currently are outpacing MW2 and Reach) and Medal of Honor that also have nice number of pre-orders and EA will definitely put a lot of money to advertise it.

3. Second entries for already established franchises on consoles tend to sell less than first entry. See Final Fantasy PS1 and PS2 gen, Metal gear solid last gen, GT last gen, Super mario galaxy 1 and 2 this gen etc..

Of course I can also be wrong. It will defininitely have bigger opening than 3 though. Probably next year we will see which side was right with ltd.

Yup...it will, and people will be eating ALOT of crow come day one and then week one sales...

Lol I can't wait!  Half of them will make up stupid excuses, and the other half will pretend like nothing ever happened.

Too bad this site is a historical record of all their comments...lol.

My brother doesn't like Halo but he preordered Halo Reach. Halo reach will easily outsell Halo3.

I still think 12 million, but I acknowledge that it may only break 11 million. Reach is selling about 7% better then Halo 3, and if trends continue, we know Halo: Reach will approach 10 million by the years end.

However this "legs" arguement does hold some ground. When Halo 3 was released, it was "the shooter" to play. CoD was strong, but not as strong as it is today, and there was virtually no competition from Sony. It was one of the biggest games at the time, and we can see that when Halo 3 got 1.3 million simultaneous players on the first weekend, when Reach only broke 800k.

So i dunno whats going to happen. If 343 Studios does make a Halo 1 remake in 2011, that could cut Reach sales, or boost it temporarily. Lets just wait and see, but 11 million is almost certain.

I don't think Halo Reach will outsell Halo 3.

I think whoring out the Halo name for Halo Wars damaged the franchise. To this day people ask me if Halo Reach is a "Shooter". ODST didn't help either.

The biggest problem with Halo Reach is that the hardcore fanbase is not hyping it or supporting it, and it's no longer "the game to play" it's just a strong shooter. All my Halo 3 buddies are on Black Ops.

Other problems holding Reach Back

*Armor Lock (this makes the noob-tube look like a skilled weapon)
*Friendly Fire and Betrayal Booting (it's mostly abused by stupid assholes, get rid of it)
*Arena, who the fuck thought this was a good idea? It's the main way to "Rank Up", and it's one of the least populated playlists
*Removal of Halo 3 ranking system
*Lack of "Classic Halo" playlist, everybody voted for it when it would come up, but Bungie got rid of it.
*Bloom, it just doesn't work well with this game

These are the most common complaints, and they are everywhere you go. Bungie changed the game to appeal to all the haters, and they basically "threw the baby out with the bathwater".

Note: Black Ops' Zombie Mode (XBL) has more players than the entire Halo Reach population. If that's not getting your ass whooped, I don't know what is.
