That makes sense to me, ioi. I'll be sure to keep myself on topic whenever in manufacturers' forums.

Yes its getting a lil out of hand but thats what mods are suppose to keep in check.
So what I'm asking is 2-3 fold: Xbox 360 owners: do you tire of what's been going on? Or am I just crazy-biased and see everything in some wierd shade of Microsoft-green, and am totally wrong and need corrected? Should people that have absolutely no interest in the Xbox 360 be allowed to come here and post anti-360 comments for no reason, then degenerate a typically positive newsworthy thread into fanboy drivel? Likewise, shouldn't we, as X360 owners, be allowed to discuss our games, our way, with whatever we want to? I think Nintendo fans should get the same luxury in their forums. I don't think anti-SMG threads by myself in their forum should be allowed, ever. Thats why I'd never do it. |
I haven't read through this whole thread, but I still want to mention some things even with the danger that they have been said multiple times already.
First off, I really can't tell too much about Xbox hate because I rarely read Microsoft topics, I usually only read topics that are related with games which I plan to buy and those threads are rarely to find in the Microsoft section.
What I notice is that there are a lot of people who go to threads only to post negative things, and I really don't understand why something like this can be fun. I guess your sample in the OP is not very good because the threads you have chosen in the Wii section are not typical flamewar threads, but that's not really important.
Of course I also noticed that there are quite a lot annoying Nintendo fanboys on this page, probably more than annoying Microsoft- or Sony-Fanboys. But this is only logical because there are just more Nintendo fanboys around at the moment.
Btw, hen I started visiting this site back in february, it was almost free of Nintendo fanboys and the Wii owners always seemed to be the most reasonable guys on the page while there were some really annoying Sony guys... Some of them are still around, but they don't post as much anymore...
This has been a problem in the PS3 and 360 forums for a long time, I'm surprised you just noticed it.
Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Merely because it seems like each day, there's something else out there on atleast this forum, that elicits OT and trolling behavior. Heck, even this thread has already been derailed from "am I the only one that thinks that the forums have been derailed by ot posts and trolling/hating beahvior" into a thread about why the X360 is great, or sucks, or anything like that. My idea was/is to use my mod powers, atleast on this forum, to try and curb the off topic and trolling behavior. Merely because if it happens here, it can start happening at other points of the forum. May I ask this of the Wii owners that posted in here: How would you like it if I started coming into the Nintendo topics, and went at length to start attacking your system of choice, and your game(s) of choice? And again, I did that in your forum. Not mine. Everyone should certainly feel free to post in the MS forum, but I fail to see why we should treat someone that doesn't own a Xbox 360, have any interest in it, and definately sees the world from a much different slant, the same kind of credit and opportunities someone else does. There are lots of multi-console owners in the X360 forum, but they are the ones, 7 out of 10 times, defending the thread/cause of the X360. So I guess what I'll just do is whip out the ban stick if I need to (but after warnings, of course). Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of fine folk that never will own a Wii like Rolstoppable, Naznatips, DonWii, and others that post in the X360 forums and usually have something intelligent and constructive to say. But then, you have others that just seem to come in to bash the X360, or raise the post count. I've never seen leo-J or Soriku come here to post a topic about something new/exclusive to the X360 and talk about it from a neutral standpoint, have I? |
You mean like this thread:

I know you did not start this or even posted in it, but this is a great example of Wii bashing from people that do not own/want a Wii.
Later on a COD4 thread, there were a lot of angry users with the game short duration. You said something like : why people attack this game and ignore Mario Galaxy a 7 hour game.
What is my point? I think that for someone who dislikes criticism from those that do not own a 360 you do it a lot for the Wii and PS3. On the Atlus thread you said on several posts that Wii rpg line was weak, subpar and minor compared to Xbox 360. How all that started (IMO)? Some users stated that 360 was the console of choice for JRPGs, Wii and PS3 supporters disagreed and the thread degenerated into a flamewar.
You also made a lot of harsh comments to the Wii line of games, like Rol already said in his post. I agree that the thread as way off topic by them and some of your attacks were more like counter attacks.
Even so, you should mod your own 360 buddies if you want to prevent people that do not own a certain console to post into console specific threads. If you want to prevent flaming this way then make sure that 360 onwers post only on 360 boards.
I think this solution is the worst, but I wanted to show you that it affects everyone.

the console war keeps this forum alive.
don't take the flaming serious.
there will be only one winner and this winner will have the most fanboys.
BUT always think about that "each console is great"

I agree with this. I think mods handing out bans based on neutrality is d-a-n-g-e-r-o-u-s.
ioi - I urge you to consider removing the hot topics section, or making threads have some sort of color-coded indication of what forum they are in. I think that would help and make trolling more clearly trolling. It took me a couple weeks to even realize there were multiple subforums.
If you have a problem with a post/poster and feel like there's a conflict of interest in handling it yourself, report it so another mod can handle it.
At the same time, there should be some indication of what forum a topic is posted in on the front page because right not most people don't pay attention to it.
The 360 has a fantastic library. Its library doesn't deserve to be attacked. That's not fair. Some people don't dig Halo or perhaps Halo 3 didn't live up to their expectations. Some people don't dig other games on other systems. None of that matters. Right now, the fact is that cross platform games, by and large, are best on the 360.
One issue I have with the 360, however, is the overall reliability issues with their hardware. I see a lot of people suffer from 360 failures, and I especially feel bad for those who get replacements that fail within a month or otherwise have to deal with multiple failures in a short period. MS' phone support is far more miss than hit, with many of the repair experiences being fairly long ordeals (about a month call-to-refurb arrival), and often ending in disappointment or fear of another failure. Or people who buy brand new bundles and get them to fail out of the box or within weeks.
I just don't understand why MS hasn't done anything serious to address the reliability issue of the 360. The heat sink addition is obviously not doing it, and the 3-year RROD-only warranty is just enough to avoid a class action lawsuit. That's very frustrating -- it's like so many good games are trapped on an unreliable platform.
I think your just cherry picking threads Mrstickball and that in reality it happens fairly often on all three forums.
Though I'm getting sick of the hate on all sysems, as well as PS3 owners who think your not aloud to discuss sales because the PS3 is doing bad, or at the very least have to make excuses for it.
