Forums - Nintendo - (Rumor from GDC) DS specs- Bigger screens and Gamecube-like structure

"I've already said why they would do it, as a defensive move against downloadable titles that are "good enough". "

Oh, I thought you meant digital distribution. I misunderstood you. I get the other thing. They need to make their product good enough to make people want to buy them. Same fight against disinterest they've been fighting since the Wii and DS.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

That is a good quote, I like that quote.

It makes me think that this integration isn't as soon in coming as one might think, though.

Interesting... Too bad I'm not buying it if they release already this year: I haven't got time to play with my DSi... =(

10 years later and the performance of a Gamecube? That shows how far behind the times handhelds are. However performance should be a little better due to more efficient software and possibly a smaller screen.

Why, because he said "we can't do it yet"? It's not like they would say they were doing it soon if they were, he's pretty much forced to say something like "we're not there yet".

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

It's not about catching up. It's about cost and size. The PSP cost a lot when it came out due to the parts. A Nintendo handheld with similar specs now would likely cost as much as the DS did at first.

I understand all of this. Its about what is efficient to produce at the time. Its a balance between features, performance and offering a compelling user experience.

But that doesn't mean handhelds are behind. It just means the specs can't be too high to fit those things.

...You really think this might be ready for this year, huh?

Man

That'd be cool as Hell.
