Grey21 said: GeOW is big but it never reached the status of Halo. The original was one of the first games that people considered ''nextgen'' and it sort of revolutionized the third person shooter genre. But GeOW never had a wide appeal, it's the same with God of War, decent sales figures but not in comparison to the reviews it got. So does GeOW still matter? Sure to the same people it has always appealed to and GeOW3 will still sell 1-2 million easily.
Halo on the other hand is still very popular as a FPS. Even an overpriced expansion could sell many millions more then it deserved. I don't see any signs of Halo slowing down, which I think is strange because the universe isn't all that interesting anymore. I think Reach will decide to future of the series but right now Halo still matters. |
Alright nothing personal but you're throwing words around as light heartedly as the fucking idiot who wrote that article which it still beats me how he has a job with such a non story superflous article. Gears 1 and 2 both sold 5 million plus! i don't know how those are 'decent' numbers. Those are stellar numbers! Take away about 5 ninty games and there's no more than 7 games above 5 million this gen, of which 5 out of 7 are from the COD and Halo franchises which have become cultural phenomenons. Make no mistake Gears is as huge as it seems. Again, no offense Grey21, it's just this guy was allowed to write such a thin ice story i fell off my chair and it seems like you're falling for his wordplay.
Now, in regards to the article, did this guy seriously as a game journalist take the performances of a console RTS and an expansion pack as his smoking gun for why halo is becoming a non issue?????!! Honestly, I think the editor deserves to be fired more so than the writer. This is about the third time in a month i hear this exact same non sense, but this is the first time i hear it from the gaming media.
The RTS genre is known as a niche genre no matter what platform it's on, but on a console 'niche' is an understatement. Nonetheless halo wars managed to become the best selling RTS ever. Epic Fail if you ask me, I expected it to sell 10 million +! Halo ODST was an expansion pack with some negative press and general grumbles from the gaming public before it even released because of it's price. If Halo ODST would have been priced at $40 it still wouldnt have sold above 6 million at best. However it was priced at $60 and almost sold 5 million! Can you imagine an EXPANSION PACK joins the ranks of the 5 million+ games of the 7th generation. ODST failed however in my view, because everyone knows expansion packs always outsell the Main storyline titles of a series...
