Can't double as a gamepad?

You know, like in NSMBWii, Punch Out!!, Metroid: Other M, NES games on the VC, etc.. The Move is a little less flexible than the wiimote. Not a big deal, but it could lead to more expense if you want to support many players in different games. A wiimote alone can work as a gamepad, the Move needs an added sub-controller.

I suppose I could just roll that in under the 'more expensive' point.

IT DOESN'T HAVE A D-PAD?

Waaaagh

If it did, how the hell would you get at it around that huge glowing orb?

I've heard some people can rock a wiimote with WM+ NES-style, but I don't really get that, either.

I watched the video.... this is uterly dumb.... sure the orb comes from there.... it's like 5% of the controller.... the other 95% is wiimote ripoff.

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

You guys think we need an official "Move" thread?

Yes, it most definitely is.

No, when you consider WM+ and Sony's "subcontroller". At that point they have identical features and pretty much identical capabilities.

It will be interesting for fanboys on Sony's side to see final impressions when Move is about to release and all of the similar types of games handle exactly the same.

At GDC right now the software is too new and that's why most reviews relate how the controls are similar to Wii's 1st year 3rd party crapfests.

By launch the best products on both sides will function the same.

It's an improvement, but I'm not really blown away by it. Hopefully they'll show it off properly (with decent and new game experiences) at E3.

Also, regarding your video and proof that Sony was working on this prior to Wii, that's not the same thing.

That was a test of an idea where eye could track an object that is obviously the grandfather of what Move is, however, it was not to implement motion controls. Mearly a game like what eyepet or that card game became.

Sony simply utilized what they had learned from those games and that test item to create a ripoff of the Wiimote/nunchuk and copy full motion controls (which include a lot more than simply a bright orb and camera).

It's the exact same from what I've seen so far only difference is Move is constantly recalibrating but seems to show lag with fast movements and pointers which unfortunately for those keeping an eye on Move make up the majority of motions used in motion control games, at this point tbh I don't see how anyone can hand on heart say it's superior even from what's been shown as it looks the same only with some lag which is something that has to be dealt with as lag breaks motion control games.

The tech in both Move and the WMP is actually the exact same only difference is the Wiimote has a built in IR sensor to triangulate the two points on the sensor bar while Move uses the PSeye for those calculations. It's why Move can recalibrate constantly but struggles at fast movements and pointer activity as a camera is subject to how quick it translate what it sees, it's probably down to the PSeye that we've seen lag with Move.

Now that we have established that Sony's motion controller is not a ripp-off of Nintendo's Wii Remote (a prototype was demonstrated as early as 2004, long before Wii http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbSzmRt7HhQ ), I'd like to ask: Do you think Playstation Move is an improvement over Wii Remote which will make new kinds of games possible?

You do realize that's nothing like the Sony move in that video.

That's just basic motion sensing.  The two concepts are fundamentally different.

That's the motion control sony was working on all these years... basic motion captioning... and when something better came along the wiimote they adjusted their plans.

It's a BIG ripoff. Not that it really matters to the public, what matters is who offers the best expierence.

Technically speaking, yes. Almost definitely. I don't think there are many things the Wiimote can do that the Move can't.

No. The problem of Move is the pointer-controls. Move has a big lag there, because of technically limitations, it is almost unusable for Shooters.

The motion controls are equally.

Well now I said "many thing", not "any things". I haven't been keeping u with the impressions for the past day or so, I admit it. Is the lag for the pointer really that bad?

Currently.  I'm sure it's something that can be worked out in the software though.

I mean, if it's not... the Move wouldn't really be good for most things.
