Forums - Sony Discussion - NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! My PS3 drive just died!!! :-(

I think it's the laser; when I press my ear against my PS3 I hear the drive making sounds it never did before. And 1 out of ~20 times, FFXIII starts and PS3 freezes (gets stuck at loading making weird sounds) at a loading screen...

I assumed it was a 60GB PS3 before I even read this and I was right. I wonder how many they have left in original condition?

You were actually wrong. He is in Eu where the 360 was never released.

EDIT: LOL this is like the 4th mistake I've made today but this one is obvious. So I'm just going to leave it like that and point out that I'm well aware that I did it.

Try a BD movie. If only games aren't working it could be an HDD issue.

Also did you just get a new TV by any chance?

I read somewhere else that it could be that. Others have fixed it by going into settings, going to the 1080 link which is 5th from the bottom I believe and setting it from "automatic" to "off".

This was suggested to someone by a Sony rep.

OMG! I'm watching FRIENDS just fine!!!

Could it be HDD error? I tried a system file recovery but it didn't work! Maybe I should format the HDD?!

I just read that it is because of a corupt spot on the HDD. Call sony see if they will do anything. If not just swap out the HDD I'd say.

Yes, you would need to format the HDD.

It can't be just the BD laser if it is reading movies fine.

Did you also try the 1080p fix I posted above?

It would make me feel good if I save you $200.

By the way, if the HDD format does end up working I would suggest picking up a new HDD in the mean time.

Also make sure you sync your trophies and backup your game saves.
