leo, do you happen to own a PS3....
OnlyIsrael nailed it. It's mostly folks who want to be different, so they claim they hate everything that does well.
It's clearly illogical. Just look at one of the posts here:
-----------------------------
leo-j:
Halo 3 is not a 9.5 game, they completely overhyped halo 3, the campaign is terrible and short. The online is ok. Tahts it, cod4 rapes halo 3 end of story.
As for mass effect its short.
------------------------
So according to Leo, the biggest problems with both Halo and Mass Effect is game length. Yet he loves COD4? How long is the single player in COD4? Like 7 hours?
I've got nothing against COD4, it's a great game, but clearly he's a bit confused if he likes long games.
Buy the games you like, play the games you like, and don't worry about what a few folks say. If they want to miss out on some of the best Sci-Fi stories ever told in video games just because they don't like the 360, well, it's their loss.

Gamers have 3 choices this generation: The Exercise Machine, the Movie Machine, or the Game Machine. What kind of gamer are you?
The reason I generally don't like halo was that the only one I played was 3, I was expecting the world and a half in a video game comming from what 5mil pre-orders. We got it, I played it, I was extremely let down. For me to get into a shooter type game it needs to have something unique, something exploitable, something that you can truely master. Halo, is not that game, the reason Halo is so popular is BECAUSE it's so linear. Bungie did to the FPS what Nintendo's been doing all these years. Make a game thats accessable to everyone. Not one person can't pick up halo and not be able to play it. Its a VERY barebone FPS compared to MANY others on the market. Not necesarrily a bad thing, just not exactly "Combat Evolved." You pick up a gun, point it and something, and fire. I have MANY gripes with Halo 3 but I just won't get into them. I just find the game extremely simple, nothing really technical about it. AGAIN not bad, just not for me.
I was eagerly anticipating Mass Effect, and still am :) I'm just a bit dissapointed in Gametrailers for their review. Some of the things they docked points for in Uncharted Drakes Fortune (just beat, absolutely wonderfull game btw), they kind of let slide under the rug in Mass Effect. Not that I hate Mass Effect for it, I just find it kind of bias and puts a bit of an edge on the whole MS vrs. Sony type thing. No real gripe with Mass Effect, definate gripe with Halo.

Not surprising the majority of people here are Nintendo fans so some will hate on those games no matter how good the reviews. It's one of the really sick parts of fanboyism, cause you're basically hoping that owners of the other system will be disappointed so that you feel a little better since you can't get those games.
They basically think of everything as a zero sum game. Before Galaxy started getting crazy reviews all you could hear was how the game reviewers hate the Wii. Now that's all changed. It's the same with all fanboys.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!
Hmm?? It just seems so 1 sided, it almost makes me wonder if I just don't know what a good game is supposed to be.
Leo-j I thought Halo 3 was quite good, especially playing online. Cod4 IS GOOD, I can't say it rapes Halo 3 though.
If it is Microsoft hate, that sucks because these folks are missing out on some good games. As for the PS3, I'll get one if Killzone 2 is good.
Its not just MS hate, I mean to tell you the truth I LOATHE microsoft, I really do, for MANY reasons. But I respect games like Bioshock, and Mass Effect. I just hate people confusing popular with good. Its not that Halo is Bad, its just not THAT GOOD. Like I said its just very simple. If you were to play Resistance fall of man, and not use any of the secondary firing, the game would be pointless >_> you just turned a great game that had something unique, into something average and mundane. So some people can REALLY get into the weapons system, some can't. Therefor not everone can like Resistance, and reasonably so :) But you can't play halo and not know what to do, what it presents you with IS the depth of the game, it's got a sci-fi theme so it FEELS different, but it really, really isn't. I definately like a few of the games it has, just halo wouuld not be one of them.

Oh yeah, of course it is bias chrono, they definitely have bias for 360, I'm glad someone with an icon of Kratos from GoW was nice enough to point that out for the rest of us. I must have been blind.
Anyways, the reason Uncharted didn't get a score YOU probably think it deserved, is because all it did was mix together ideas that other games made famous, added in a story (albeit, a really really good one, I am still contemplating purchasing the game, probably a rent and beat it in a weekend though) and the game just wasn't that long, or difficult. Not a bad thing, easily accessible, but it would be nice if the platforming was a bit more difficult, and if they added anything resembling a somewhat challenging puzzle that would be cool too.
Most of the hate for MS, ME, and Halo all comes from sony/PS3 fans generally, and I can see why, even though I own a PS3 too. If I didn't own a box in addition to the PS3, I would be pretty bitter about how much coverage 360 games seem to get, the lack of games in general the PS3 has/had, and the fact that I can't play any of those good games. I'm sure this has something to do with the way leo-j acts. Way to prove a point there RedToof, he complains about Mass Effect and Halo being to short, comparing them both to CoD4, which is even shorter than Halo, make sense? NO! Not only that, I don't think there is a single game out for PS3 that is even close to the length of mass effect, which is from what I hear, 20 hours or so if not more, if you actually play through the entire game, and explore most everything there is to explore.
I agree with you all in the attention aspect of things. When your brand/console is getting none, its really easy to lash out and try to grab some for yourself, and your brand at the same time. For the most part MS hate is followed by Sony praise, so not only do you open everyone's eyes to their plight, but you also get to show them the map to the true "treasure"....in your eyes. Blah, I'm done.
Currently Playing:
PS4 - Killzone:SF and Assasins Creed 4
XBox One: BF4, CoD:Ghosts, Dead Rising 3, Forza 5

| OnlyIsrael said: Because people love to hate. "Hey look at me! I'm different, I hate something millions of people like! They're all idiots and I'm a Freaking genious! Look ,me, hey, look!!" Bah, its the same story with anything that allot people like. There's a group of people out there that want/need to be different for whatever reason and they make it a point to be as loud and obnoxious about it as possible. They believe this makes there argument more valid; plus its attention and apparently more is never enough. |
No sorry, Its called not liking the game. Have you ever heard of that before?
I hate World of Warcrack but 10+ million people love it. Thats their choice. I dislike the game.
I dislike halo. I love the FPS genre. I know that there are way better games. Halo does nothing revolutionary.
Mass effect - looks to much like a cross between an RPG and a shooter. Just doesnt look interesting as a FF game or DQ game or Paper Mario game.
I could go on but you get the picture. Its not that we was attention we just prefer better games. I'll take good old Command and Conquer Red Alert 2 over Mass Effect any day. =]
PS I hate Microsoft suing all open source mediums. Thats my Mircosoft Hate.

Generalise much? You seem to treat "Wii Fanboys" as one autonomous unit, whereas you may find that there are actually different people that claim biased reviews as those who say the reviews are good. No one hates Halo/Mass Effect just because they're not on nintendo. Ever heard the term "Cum hoc ergo propter hoc". It's a very common logical fallacy and you just committed it. Did you ever stop to think tha maybe the reason someone buys a Wii instead of an Xbox360 is because they don't like games like Halo? Oh sorry, I used the word "think" there, I apologise. This goes for the rest of the "you only hate it because it's not on your console" crowd. Stop to think and don't jump to conclusions, that is exactly what Jack Thompson does.
On Topic: I don't enjoy Halo, but Mass Effect is honestly the one game that could interest me in buying a 360. I think the reason people were insulting Halo is because they expect more from a game with that much hype. As for Mass Effect, I seriously have no idea.
Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!
I like Halo, and want to play Mass Effect. Maybe Boxing day if I find a good 360 deal I'll pick it up.
At the same time, it may as well just be "Halo A/B/C". Delivers exactly what the first game delivers! Which in itself was an awesomely fun console FPS. So far as evolution went, it's kinda like a shark. It's damn good at what it does, but it hasn't changed for millions of years. Some people like change in their games, some don't.
Mass effect, well, alien lesbianism creeps some people out, and turns others on far too much. Far too much.
See Ya George.
