Has FFXIII Lived up to expectations

The game is absolutely amazing, 13 29.55%

Its ok, met expectations 6 13.64%

Real let down, was hoping for much more 11 25.00%

I wont be buying/playing it anyway 7 15.91%

SQUIRREL! 7 15.91%

Total:44

Since a few people will have this already (like me) and more buying as I type I was wondeirng how people are finding it.

Personally I'm 5 hours in and finding it really hard to... keep playing. I'm a big RPG fan and played and enjoyed loads of games, but this really is plain boring so far. I keep kicking myself telling myself to give it a bit longer and see if it kicks in, but 5 hours into a game I really shouldn't feel like that.

Its like playing the side missions on crisis core but with a little story now and again, not even like the story is appealing yet.

I'll give it more time but its a MASSIVE let down so far. Looks pretty but I've played snes games with better gameplay and involvement than this so far (chrono trigger?). Theres no Character interaction whatsoever, no control over party memebers and levelling just doesn't feel rewarding, its just a means to an ends to get to the next cutscene where you get a tiny drip more of story. So far I could sum the 5 hours of play/cutscenes up in just over a sentence I reckon.

I'm just under 8 hours in...

And yes. It has so far lived up to my expectations.

Find out 2morrow

SQUIRREL!

The only way this game to reach 10 million is with legs. I hope it live up my expectations.

The vast majority of people, outside of Japan, have not even bought the game yet, let alone played more than a couple hours of it if they bought it at launch. So I don't think we can ask the question yet.

Probably in a month or two, we can ask. And even then, I think you'll get a mixed opinion as many people will have either put it on the shelf for another game (IE God of War III) or will give you opinions like BEST GAME EVAR without even getting to the end of the game.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

Everyone is just used to WRPGs like Fallout, Oblivion, and Mass Effect they don't like something that's different. A lot of people hated FF XII too. I have been playing the core series of FF (not the spin offs) since red mage, thief, white mage days. Each one brings something new and of course some fans of previous installments won't like the evolution of the game, because its different.

I know I have enjoyed the differences in each installment, it may take some time to get used to but it is the best thing that could happen with the series. You don't want to play the same JRPG over and over. At least SE mixes it up each time, it may lose some fans but hey you will pick up new ones with a different look.

Fact: Earthbound is the greatest game ever made

Yeah it is the best jrpg.

I'd hardly say I'm just used to playing WRPGs and I don't play JRPGs, Over the past year I've completed Final Fantasy 7 (for the umpteenth time), Chrono Trigger, Crisis Core, Tales Of Vesperia and I spent 3 years playing Lineage 2... a Korean grind MMO.

I love RPGs and really get into them, for an RPG to be boring after 5 hours really isn't good. Its just too easy for me to see through the shiny graphics and all thats left is a boring battle system and extremely unrewarding grind.

Considering I used to play 14-20 hours a day sometimes huting the sameroom repeatedly in Lineage 2 to level up, grinded Final Fantasy 7 last time till all my characters were level 99 and spent about 10-20 hours in the forest in chroni-trigger levelling up my characters last playthrough I'd hardly say I'm adverse to a good grind game either. So far this game just isn't rewarding or exciting in the slightest.

I would hardly class it as the best JRPG from my experience so far.

Edit: Just to add, that is my opinion, as everyone has their own opinion. My judgement is subject to change as I get through the game also, it did take me 3 hours to unlock more commands than just attack so maybe further down the line something interesting will open up. Till then though I'll stick by what I'm saying.
