Why is it stupid, Summer didn't want to marry Tom, she didn't even want a serious relationship with him remember. Then she met the one, why is that so unbelievable.

The two things I hated were as follows:

1.) Summer's reason for marrying some other guy and the fact she couldn't have known them for longer than a few months before deciding to marry.

2.) Autumn's entire introduction, I felt, made a complete mockery of what the film was about. That there are no "fated" meetings and Summer's entire reasoning doesn't make sense, in my opinion.

Some cosmic superpower is watching everyone in the world and deciding who they will pair off with and gives them the divine foresight to let them know? I mean..., really? The entire backgroung message was completely laughable in my honest opinion.

I understand what you're saying, but

1) Summer just knew that the other guy was the one, why does how long they've known each other an issue?

2) But isn't meeting Autumn "fate", it took falling in love with Summer and being Heartbroken to get Tom back into Architecture, which is how he met Autumn in the first place.

3) Maybe its just me, but Love doesn't always make sense, in my opinion

1.) She spends how long with Tom being in love with him and then suddenly she found the one in like a few days? -_-'

2.) That's the entire issue I have with it. Just "knowing" and the explanation being some cosmic superpower is just ridiculous. Tom just "knew" Summer was the one and yet that didn't turn out well. Why does everything have to be some inhumane power taking control of people and making their decisions for them as some philosophical garbage people come up with to seem smart? Ugh...

3.) But love is slow, not something you automatically decide on because some guy comments on some comic you're reading.

1) She said she didn't want anything serious, she didn't believe in Boyfriend/Girlfriend. Summer saw them as friends with benefits, more than being in love. It wasn;t fair to tom, but she made it clear she wasn't in it for a serious relationship.

2) Tom thought she was the "one", but Summer didn't feel the same there is nothing he can do about. I don't think people think of this stuff to seem smart, its just something that people believe in. Just because you don't like it or agree with it, doesn't mean it isn't true

3) Love isn't one set thing, love just is whatever it may be. We don't control it and we can't help it. If you haven't experienced something, like falling madly in love in a short period of time, the  you shouldn't knock it

I guess I just didn't find that part believable at all... and felt it mocked everything the movie initially stood for.

Around the Network

i loved the movie
hollywood is so full of shity romantic comedies and then (500) Days of Summer came by
so refreshing and original
with no stupid cliches and the movie is pretty smart
simply one of the best movies of 09
(in my humble opinion of course)

I thought Autumn fit the themes of the movie quite well. Autumn was Tom's "the one." It's not fate, they just fit each other. The name reflects that. Her name fits his situation.

Agreed. But I'd go further and say the female love interest was a real witch. Not very likeable at all. Much like Eva Mendes' character in Hitch. Where you often wonder why the male protagonist is even interested in such classless women.

Did you miss the part where the main character was a complete tool?  Cause, i mean that's why he was interested in her.

As for the "inhuman specialiness"...

if you don't believe in that... all it means is you haven't expierenced it.

Lots of people actually feel they have though.

Or for that matter... even dated or met more then a couple people. I mean it takes different amounts of time to know different people. There are some people you meet and know in a day. Others you have to feel out for a long time. It's not surprising at all that it might take forever to feel if you REALLY feel that way about somebody... and it's not surprsing it might take no time at all depending.

I didn't like the movie either, but for different reasons. It just played into far too many romantic comedy cliches, and the change of pace ending doesn't excuse how unoriginal the remainder of the movie was.

Very true, another reason I wasn't really into the movie.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

Love arises out of feeling compassion and similar to someone after a long time, it's not some spontaneous nonsense like Hollywood would have you believe.

Not everyone would agree with you.  There are plenty of people who say they knew they were going to be with the person as soon as they met.

Desperate people, maybe.
