Definitely an unhealthy relationship among gamers. Then again, it has also created companionship and unique traits for each console. Competition is always good, however in our troubled economy, especially since our industry is hurting right now, the negative (unjustified) opinions towards games and platforms is hurting the creativity.

It's created a lot more opinionated cunts, that's for sure.

it seems if we look closely at the situation now, the console war may have gotten out of hand, comparing to the days of SEGA and Nintendo. Yes times have changed but still people do play dirty to get what they want cough...cough M$.

Asking whether or not the console war has done good or bad is like asking whether or not food has done good or bad. For as long as the term would even make sense to apply, it has always existed. I think this particular turn in the console war has been mostly good, because it has forced people to think about what it is gaming means to them, and what they want gaming to be. That isn't possible unless the consoles are doing very different things.

Competition is always good. Do you really trust MS, Sony or even Nintendo to do the rights things if they had a monopoly?

When you said console war. I thought you were only referring to the wars between the fanboys.
If you are talking about the larger issue of competition in the video game industry then I agree that it is a good thing.

Console wars are always good, although I don't think a monopoly on hardware would kill gaming, since developers will always compete for sales. A monopoly would merely kill a lot of smaller development studios.

But for this generation, it's helped gaming. Without competition, online console gaming would still be lame, gaming would cater far more to kids than to adults, and there'd be no motion control.
