Did the console war did more good than bad

Console wars are always good, although I don't think a monopoly on hardware would kill gaming, since developers will always compete for sales. A monopoly would merely kill a lot of smaller development studios.

But for this generation, it's helped gaming. Without competition, online console gaming would still be lame, gaming would cater far more to kids than to adults, and there'd be no motion control.
