Forums - Sony - My Opinion On Heavy Rain Graphics

You gotta remember that Yakuza 3 is a year old game so ofc the graphics isn't that up to date on games that we have now such as heavy rain. As for heavy rain graphics its great the character model look super good, the surrounding for most part is very detailed like in the motel room, overall graphics are great.

Heavy Rain's graphics are all over the place. At times it looks very average, then it can look like a well polished third party game, at times it looks like Unchrted 2, and then at some moments it shocks the brain with near real graphics. What it does well though is keeping eveything well polished. Even when stuff starts looking really undetailed, it always keeps its vibe of a real life world. They never have any jarring moments were envionments clash, or draw distance making things look fake.

One spot that sticks out to me is the religious dudes house. That is a place that looks amazing.

That's how I'm finding it.  At times the effect is uncanny, and you feel you're there, right there in a dark David Fincher thriller a'la Seven, then othertimes you're merely playing a very attractive 'sort of' point and click adventure game.

Overall though it's a great change from the usual genre fare and I'm enjoying just how different it is in context to most other games on the market right now.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I don't know if everyone remember, HR was announced when(before?) PS3 launched.

You really shouldn't compare it to Ryu ga Gotoku 3 (Yakuza 3). The game is like a year old already and even though it's barely coming out in the US, in Japan the game already has a "best hits" version. I think Ryu ga Gotoku 4 (Yakuza 4) is coming out soon actually.

Plus it seems like Sega is really pumping out the Ryu ga Gotoku games like crazy; Kenzan (spin-off one) in 2008, Ryu ga Gotoku 3 (Yakuza 3) in 2009 and now Ryu ga Gotoku 4 in 2010, unlike Quantic Dream, which I'm sure spent quite a bit of time working on just this game.

I am pretty disappointed with Heavy Rain's graphics so far.

They are certainly very good, but nowhere near what they were hyped to be. And nowhere near the best on either HD console.

Having fun playing it on your Xbox?

Sorry, couldn't help it :)

I've had a PS3 for nearly a year now...

Yakuza 3 is a free-roaming game like GTA, Heavy Rain on the other hand is an adventure title, so for scales sake, both have their own strength and weakness. As one cannot compare car models in GTA San Andreas with GT4 caused its simply not fair. Anyway both are AAA games for PS3 in their own right, both excel in their own genre.

Question is, have you actually gone through and played HEAVY RAIN? If you're judging from videos and walthroughs, you haven't experienced it. And since you do have a PS3, why haven't you added your collection to the Chartz?

And the answer is yes, I have been playing about three hours, and am at the part where the second child has been missing and the FBI guy has well and truly settled in.
