the first couple of ads were WII ADS about ALICE the game, so I guess that will boost hardware up a bit..imo

No. If you drag another movie that people like into this discussion, be prepared to face the consequences. We're not going to let you celebrate a meaningless achievement just so you can feel better about this movie.

Several people have already explained why this is not a meaningful achievement. It's the opening weekend at the domestic box office only. We've explained already how Avatar was based more on legs, and it didn't necessarily have a humongous opening. Avatar grossed consistently because of its word of mouth and 3D effects. Worldwide gross means a lot more than domestic gross. You yourself just indirectly admitted that it's not much of an achievement (by saying you need to appreciate this "achievement."). I'm not closing my eyes at all. I'm showing you how Avatar did better in the achievements that actually matter. You're the one that's closing your eyes and clinging to this achievement that doesn't matter at all, especially when you consider that New Moon is sitting comfortably at #3 on the list of highest domestic opening weekends.

It being meaningful or not doesn't matter because it's more of an opinion than anything else. I find it meaningful and IGN and IMDB and pretty much everybody in the movie industry find it meaningful but you don't. Fine. I didn't say anything about your opinion and I expect the same from you but that's not what happened.

And I don't mind you bringing Avatar into the discussion but don't talk to me about how great it did worldwide or whatever because that's not what the thread is about.

And I'm explaining why, in the end, there are more meaningful achievements. Avatar didn't have a humongous opening weekend at the domestic box office. It was a steady grosser. Now, if you had made a thread like "Alice in Wonderland takes 6th in Alltime Domestic Opening Weekend," that would have been fine. Instead, you had to drag another movie into this, one that's not even known for the accomplishment you mentioned. It's like bragging that Avatar's worldwide opening wasn't as big as that of the latest Indiana Jones movie, even though the latter went on to gross less than a 1/3 as much as Avatar.  By the way, I'm not bringing Avatar into the discussion. You started this. You're the one who made this thread (with a controversial topic), and was never open to debate in the first place. You're the one that has to piss and moan and make personal attacks. Avatar had a big opening, but it was never known for being record breaking, either domestic or international. It was its consistent gross, and its ability to earn weekend after weekend, that made it legendary (and king of the box office). You know this. You just continue to ignore that while making attacks at me.

Now, while I have about as much desire to continue this debate as I have in getting punched in the face (which is little at all), I have to protest. You made this thread, I've backed up my arguments with dozens of facts, and you continue to make jabs at me (while posting no facts and complaining that I'm up for debate). It's not a controversial title at all. It's the TRUTH. I could have just said "Wonderland beats Avatar" like the IGN article but I knew I would get accused of making a misleading title. The title I used is perfectly fine and it respects all forum rules.

And you've been saying over and over that I don't want to debate but the problem is that I DON'T KNOW what we're supposed to debate on. You want me to debate over opinions? I won't do that.

You completely missed his point Boutros. His point in a nutshell, is that this is a pretty meaningless achievement. For lack of a better analogy, if this were a football (soccer) game, Alice would be up by a goal at halftime, but Avatar would have twice or three times as many goals when it's all said and done.

About a year from now, you and probably Tim Burton will be the only people who remember this, think it's significant, or actually care about it.

At least, that's what I think Montana's main argument is.
