Please let me appreciate this achievement. I've been hyping this movie for quite a while now and I don't want to see these kinds of posts anymore. They don't bring much to the discussion.

No. If you drag another movie that people like into this discussion, be prepared to face the consequences. We're not going to let you celebrate a meaningless achievement just so you can feel better about this movie.

Feel better about this movie? You don't make sense. Alice beat Avatar. What the heck is your problem?

It seems you're closing your eyes to the facts and you're just saying random stuff because you want to and because it makes you feel better maybe. I just don't know what is it you're trying to say here.

Also, I loved Avatar. So I'm not trying to bring a war here.

Several people have already explained why this is not a meaningful achievement. It's the opening weekend at the domestic box office only. We've explained already how Avatar was based more on legs, and it didn't necessarily have a humongous opening. Avatar grossed consistently because of its word of mouth and 3D effects. Worldwide gross means a lot more than domestic gross. You yourself just indirectly admitted that it's not much of an achievement (by saying you need to appreciate this "achievement."). I'm not closing my eyes at all. I'm showing you how Avatar did better in the achievements that actually matter. You're the one that's closing your eyes and clinging to this achievement that doesn't matter at all, especially when you consider that New Moon is sitting comfortably at #3 on the list of highest domestic opening weekends.

Fine, continue to ignore the facts and make personal attacks. Whatever. It seems you never wanted to have a debate, and you just wanted to make a thread about a meaningless achievement where people aren't allowed to question or disagree with you. Maybe we should all just smile and give you a pat on the back.

I don't want to debate with you because you don't listen. And that's why I'm saying that you're closing your eyes.

It being meaningful or not doesn't matter because it's more of an opinion than anything else. I find it meaningful and IGN and IMDB and pretty much everybody in the movie industry find it meaningful but you don't. Fine. I didn't say anything about your opinion and I expect the same from you but that's not what happened.

And I don't mind you bringing Avatar into the discussion but don't talk to me about how great it did worldwide or whatever because that's not what the thread is about.

Stay on topic.

 

Also, New Moon in third position is quite an achievement imo.
