That really isn't a big deal.

A lot of movies beat Avatar's opening weekend. However, I doubt that AiW is going to have a second weekend anywhere near Avatar.

Its a decent movie. Not something you'd want to watch more than once. The 3D effects are nowhere near as prevalent as they are in Avatar.

I don't think you understand.

Alice in Wonderland is the sixth biggest opening weekend of all time, behind huge movies.

And it's the biggest opening weekend that is not a sequel.

I compared it with Avatar mostly because of the IMAX aspect.

Look at this list:

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/weekends/

And look at the movies close to Alice in Wonderland.

It's amazing!

It depends on how you look at it:

Is AiW hitting ~$120m in March a great number? Yes, absolutely. However, if your trying to compare AiW to Avatar because of first week numbers, then I hate to say it, but your dumb. I've been analyzing the box office far longer than video games, and the problem with AiW is that the legs of AiW are going to be horrible compared to Avatar.

@leo-j

I watched both movies in IMAX 3D. Theres no comparison.

No of course Alice won't beat Avatar. That's not what I'm trying to say here.

I'm just comparing this weekend. I didn't say anything about lifetime.

Yeah, and New Moon doubled Avatar's opening weekend, but Avatar more then doubled New Moon's total gross. $100 million for Alice is impressive but it won't have legs and it's only in theatres for 12 weeks.

Yeah but 53% is still quite good.

But what I really meant is that Alice is not different because people will love or hate it.

Alice in Wonderland is more appreciated than Charlie and the Chocolate Factory so far on IMDB:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0367594/

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1014759/

But remember Avatars Opening Weekend wasn't "all that great" compared to its final gross

It wasn't anywhere near the highest opening weekend

Avatar had AMAZING legs & worldwide it was a beast!

GO AVATAR & FF13 = the CGI Twins!

53% on rottentomatoes is good.

It's also 53 on metacritic and that's VERY good. For example, The Blind Side (nominated for Best Picture) is also 53 on metacritic.

it means the movie its pretty average

and actually i dont think the blind side deserve to be nominated for best picture

and the blind side is at 70% on rottentomatoes

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1212694-blind_side/

trust me Alice is not bad its just an empty boring visual wonder
