Forums - General - Alice in Wonderland BEATS Avatar in Opening Weekend!! (WOW)

The US is not the world, Avatar was bigger world wide.

That's how the opening weekend box office works. They only consider domestic box office.

And domestic is US and Canada.

Doesn't mean a whole lot. Avatar was a lot like a Wii game: It didn't have the biggest opening, but it had great sustained sales through word of mouth. Alice in Wonderland won't have that, especially since it isn't a good movie and Avatar is.

The movie was pretty good... but not as much as Avatar.

It won't have the legs or international gross Avatar does tho.

Well it means it beat Avatar. That's quite an achievement.

The bold part is irrelevant.

It beat Avatar at a relatively meaningless achievement. Hell, Spiderman-3 had a higher opening weekend, and by the end of Avatar's lifetime, will only have grossed a third as much.

The release date of Avatar (December 18) was better than Alice's one (March 5).

And Spider-Man 3 had a bigger budget for advertisment.

And it's also a big achievement for Tim Burton since a lot of his movies are kind of niche (aka not blockbusters).

His opening gross average is $38,851,116.

looks terrible...

"They will know heghan belongs to the helghast"

"England expects that everyman will do his duty"

"we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender"

well Im going to see it today at 7 15 because its sold out in all IMAX theatres..

I got the last 3 of 20 tickets for 7 15..

Im going to see it in full blown 3d like I saw avatar

Well, we all know it won't reach Avatar's boxoffice level, but it already made 210 mio. worldwide in its first 3 days (see link in Boutros' first post). Well-done 3D movies are the industry's new gold mine.

the glasses are normal sunglasses basically, just they use special lens for 3D, imagine that for gaming.. Sony already intend on putting 3d support into ps3 games.. I think there is potential
