Forums - Gaming - Do you recommend FFXIII to a RPG hater?

No don't play it. Its not JRPG at its best.

If you don't like RPGs, I wouldn't recommend playing an RPG. I don't like FPSs, but I invariably get lured into playing an FPS by great graphics or great reviews. I have never enjoyed playing an FPS, though, so I try to stay away from them. My recommendation: save yourself the trouble and spend your sixty bucks elsewhere.

I encourage you, play it, because its not an' RPG. its an action game. a really long action game.

is it true?is it more like an action game than boring talking/walking???

No it is not true....I'll tell you right now Spartan, 90% of the people in this thread giving you their "opinnions" of FFXIII have not even touched the game yet. I mean, half of them openly admited to not liking JRPG's in this thread, then went onto tell you the game is boring and cliche. The only people who gave an honest opinnion were those who told you they have not played it.

Personally, I played it. The game is deffinitley 1000000% an RPG. So if you really hate RPG's like you say you do, I suggest you don't play it. This is not an action game. This is not a hack n slash. This is an RPG...and if you listen to the bs people are feeding you in this thread, you will be dissapointed two minutes into the game.

Here's a definition of RPG's according to wiki:

"Generally, the player controls a small number of game characters, usually called a party, and achieves victory by completing a series of quests. Players explore a game world, while solving puzzles and engaging in tactical combat. A key feature of the genre is that characters grow in power and abilities, and characters are typically designed by the player. RPGs rarely challenge a player's physical coordination, with the exception of action role-playing games.[1]

These games usually have a highly developed story and setting, which is divided into a number of quests. Players control one or several characters by issuing commands, which is performed by the character at an effectiveness determined by that character's numeric attributes. These attributes increase each time a character gains a level, and a character's level goes up each time the player accumulates a certain amount of experience."[2]

So yeh...thats exactly what FFXIII is like....I personally love it but I'm a big fan of the genre. I hope you pick it up and give it a try as well, but I couldn't have let you do it based on false information and completely misleading lines like the one im quoting.

I honestly hate RPG genre.I find it too long and boring.I don't like finding new environment and asking people .I like linear games much more.(Also hate most of sand box games as well)

The last RPGs i tried were KOTOR, Jade ,and Fable and hated all of them.(again boring)

but the graphics of FFXIII seems really good .So i m  kinda intrested,What do you say?should i just skip it?

kotor, jade, fable all had good graphics for its time, you seem to play games base on graphics which i think is like you only like eating food because it looks good and trust me there are foods out there that look like shtt but taste great like dog meat so i mean you shouldnt be playing a game because it looks good, right now many hd games look good however many of them dont play as good as they look,

Its times like there were you just wish there was a demo for it.

It should be mandatory for all major games to have a demo BEFORE the release of the actual game. *cough Uncharted 2*

As former fps-on-console-hater I just have to say that you won't know for sure what to think about this game before you try the demo. Killzone 2 was in my case this kind of game where i wasn't sure about it, but after playing demo i fell in love with it. To bad demo of ff13 isn't here yet. In my opinion ff13 is more like a linear action game than typical rpg. It's nothing like Dragon Age Origins..., I think.

Btw, this is my first post in here so: Hello everyone, I love this site and it's community.Saying this after reading all kind of posts past 3-4 months :).

ff13 IS a linear action game...

No.

I wouldn't consider it an action game btw. Combat feels as simple as pokemon did back when I was 10.

4 ≈ One

Played FFXIII 2/3 hours yesterday. (Pre-order release)

+ Fast battles
+ Very good voice acting
+ Good music
+ Nice artwork/designs
+ Very good graphics

- I don't find the character cast appealing yet.
- The game comes a cross a little too 'soft' and 'girly'.

That's after not more than 3 hours in the game.
So of course I can't judge the game yet, but I got a good first impression.
