I dont think xb or ps3 will ever make it
Which HD console will reach 60m first? | |||
| Xbox 360 (Natal/Halo/pricecuts to the rescue) | 66 | 25.38% | |
| PlayStation 3 (slimomentum + GT5 savior) | 138 | 53.08% | |
| Wii HD (lol Pachter) | 18 | 6.92% | |
| None (everyone putters ou... | 38 | 14.62% | |
| Total: | 260 | ||
If PS3 sells 12 million per year it will take just over 2 1/4 years to reach 60 million. In the same period of time 360 only needs to sell at a rate of 9.5 million per year. Easily beatable by 360. 12 million per year by PS3 is quite likely over the next couple of years.
If PS3 sells 13 million per year it will take just over 2 years to get to 60 million. In the same period of time 360 needs to sell at a rate of 10.3 million per year. Also pretty achievable by 360, in the last 2 years 360 has averaged 10.6 million. At least as achievable as PS3 selling 13 million per year for the same period of time, possibly more achievable.
If PS3 sells 14 million per year to get to 60 million then 360 will need to sell 11.1 million per year. I think it's a tougher ask for PS3 to sell 14 million per year than it is for 360 to sell 11.1 million.
Overall the probabilities are in the favour of 360 getting to 60 million. And I definitely think both machines can be on the market long enough to get there. 70 million would be a very different matter.
Edit: minor correction

do you think they wont make it, or DO YOU WANT THEM NOT to make it?
On topic:
PS3, I believe once sony stops there little "demand is too high, = shortages" bull crap they are spewing, the ps3 should see an increase in HW sales, by the end of the year I suspect some game bundles (or arc bundles) will be announced without a price increase, or a small $20-$50 price cut.
360 WILL NOT see a dramatic increase in sales with a price cut, its already $199, once a console hits that price, that's were most of its sales come from. Now whether or not NATAL is a huge run away success, and HALO REACH becomes the 10million plus HALO 4 like system seller, is still up in the air, but knowing microsoft, so far all they have been doing this gen is perfect for atleast 2nd place.

I think they'll both putter out. Slim effect is weakening, I don't see the Arc having any real effect whatsoever. Software will bump sales up for the PS3 every so often but nothing long-term, and another price-drop won't have the same effect.
Natal may have initial success due to Microsoft hype but I don't see it catching on.
And I agree in thinking that a new console may be released from either HD manufacturer sooner than most people are expecting.
My guts says PS3.
My heart says neither the PS3 or 360.

Ancient Aliens believer?
If so, add me.
It's very hard to tell. While the PS3 is gaining sales momentum on the 360 with the slim now, it's still got a long way to go. So I just voted 360.
I personally see Natal really helping out the xbox 360. They seem to be willing to push Natal far. If that flops however, then it will be the ps3 ftw. It also does not help that the xbox sells next to nothing in Japan and its momentum is slowing in others.

Kinect!
who needs video games!Xbox 360 needs 21.67M more units sold
PS3 needs 27.38M more units sold and would need to outsell the Xbox 360 at a ratio of 1.27:1 to reach that target.
The typical difference so far for this year has been 1.27:1 favouring the PS3 which makes things interesting. The thing which tips it in the Xbox 360s favour is that Microsoft is expected to move much more strongly on price this year and its followed a pattern of PS3 -> Xbox 360 -> PS3 -> Xbox 360 in terms of momentum at the end of the year since 2006 since they didn't move on price last year.
