THQ has confirmed that 4A Games' forthcoming first-person shooter Metro 2033 will get a 3D version on the PC.

Speaking to CVG, THQ head of global communications Huw Beynon said that the high-end 3D game is a "love letter" to hardcore PC players.

"If you are a core PC gamer and you're wondering where all the love's gone when your PC games are just a slightly higher-res version of what's on the console, then I'd say 4A are writing a love letter to you and doing absolutely everything to make the PC version phenomenal," he said.

Beynon claimed that 3D gaming will focus on the "niche" hardcore PC community in the short-term, but could expand with the next wave of TV and console technology.

"I guess that the next generation of consoles and TV equipment is all going to be geared towards some kind of standard," he said.

"3D on PC uses nVidia's 3D vision technology, so it's down to the specific hardware and you need a specific monitor for it.

"So, for the time being, it's not like Avatar, where hundreds of cinemas are equipped to do it. In gaming it's going to be a relative niche."

Metro 2033 will be released in the UK on March 19 for Xbox 360 and PC.

THQ also plans to offer PC gamers who purchase the title on its release date a free copy of third-person shooter Red Faction: Guerrilla in a bundled pack.

If it has games for live (or whatever its called) achievements then I might have to pick it up.

Nvidia 3D vision is a joke these days.

Bioshock 2 got an "exclusive 3D Vision compatibility" option.

Guess what...it still doesn't work with 3D vision. Mass Effect 2 doesn't work. Alien VS Predator doesn't work.

But I heard Sonic All str Racing works great which may excuse all the BS...

I also heard that Just Cause will have official 3D vision support as well.

I'm still at the stage where it's brilliant.

Its brilliant when it works. so far this year the games that support it have been few and far between (dark void)

Also, they messed with the driver and now it doesn't support my samsung TV using the latest driver without a hack work-around.

I tried Batman and WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!! I figured that the newer games would be similar in their application of 3D but it sounds like a back step. Hopefully this wont happen to Metro2033

Yah...Batman and Resident Evil 5 are the pinacle of 3D gaming at the moment. the problem with Nvidia is that they provide game support 2-3 months later. Dirt 2 just got a patch and it works now... 

We will get Mass Effect 2 and Bioshock patches in April I bet. But by then its all about splinter cell...

I think it's either Windows Live, or Games for Windows. Probably the latter.

Found out. It's a combination of the two - Games for windows - live.
And this isn't.

It uses Steamworks and not GFWL.
