Forums - Gaming - Infinity Ward Founders File Lawsuit Against Activision

Now this will be an interesting case to follow.

i am rooting for IW

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Based on the series involved I thought this was the right facepalm for the situation.

But yeah... terrible business practice by Activision... screwing over your talent isn't going to net you new talent to get them to make the next big seller... and making so many games in a series is going to make sales tank... you're setting yourself up for failure, this is exactly what happened to EA and now they're losing a crap ton of money... you over produce series' they stop selling, you mistreat your talent, they leave, you have to find new talent but the new talent isn't going to be as good as the old talent as the better developers will avoid doing business with you, and so you lack employees that can make a new series that will sell gangbusters... a wall if you will...

As far as West and Zampella's lawsuit goes, I hope they win, get what they're owed and then some, plus take their winnings & team to go make a new studio.

Well said, I hope Activision looses and EA ends up buying IW.  I hate Activision.

Infinity Ward left EA some years ago. So I doubt they would go back to them.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

And if i remember correctly EA didnt want IW to do Modern Warfare type game, thats why IW went to Activision.

Really didn’t see that coming! (Sarcasm, in case you are wondering) Looks like we will all find out what this "insubordination" was all about. Probably "no, we won’t forgo our royalty payments thank you"

Can someone update me on what exactly IF did that caused Activision to fire the IW heads?

A point of note here though is that the reports are saying 'IW have not been paid their royalties by Activision' as yet. However, theres nothing to indicate that they are infact meant to have done. Its not uncommon I think for them to be paid either 6 months after release, or at specifed points in the year - April is probably quite common bieng the start/end of the fiscal year !

That is the whole point of the lawsuit and the timing of the firings.  ACT fired them just before the royalty payments were due.  Personally, I think that regardless of the facts ACT is going to have a very hard time with this case because there was such a large financial motive for misconduct.

Well if Activision own the rights to 'Call of Duty' and IW own the rights to 'Modern Warfare' that may explain why Activision wanted 'Call of Duty' added to the title of Modern Warfare 2.

Interesting if that's true because if the CoD name wasn't used, IW could have potentially sued for a lot more.
