Forums - Nintendo - Dawn of Discovery Wii... How did this game go so unnoticed??

I'm absolutely stunned at how overlooked this amazingly fun and addictive Wii game is! I mean I suppose it's not the more accessible game around (as it can get surprisingly complex for its cutesy look), but its controls are really crisp and responsive, looks great, and feel very polished. It doesn't really seem that niche to me, at least for an RTS..

Maybe it's just because I am an RTS fan, and I've been desperately craving one on the Wii with the pointer controls, but after diving into it for roughly 8 hours in the last couple of days, I can safely say this is one of the most fun Wii games I've played, 1st, 2nd or 3rd party.

The only thing I can really think of for its extreme lack of sales is the almost non existant advertising. I mean, I'm an avid Wii fan and have done my research on Wii games, both major releases and niche, and even I hadn't heard of this game until just recently.. And if I haven't heard of a Wii game, that usually spells trouble for the developer...

If you're even mindly into RTS, particularly in god games like Sim City, do yourself a favor and pick this one up. With the complexity and amount of content of the game coupled with how fun it is, it's absolutely a steal for 20 bucks. It's bested only by RE4, Zack and Wiki, and Little King's Story in terms of best 3rd party Wii game. I only wish this game was online, that's one of its few flaws which keep it from being a truly AAA game. But if you can get past that, you'll really enjoy the game.

i have the game too, and i love it. i used to have anno 1602 on my pc years ago (the series is anno in europe, but the name for the us wii version was changed to dawn of discovery). that was a great game aswell. it played a lot like this one, except had some more complexity, 2d graphics, limited online multiplayer, and no treasure hunting or medals.

i sadly lost that game, so this new wii game was a dream come true for me. i still like the old pc game better, but this one is still great.

come try out the computer game i've been working on for my high school senior project, titled sling ball. http://vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=76669&page=1

you can view a few screenshots from the game in my photo album here; http://www.vgchartz.com/photos/album.php?album=2312

yes, this is vonboy's alt account. i can't log into my original account, and i'm not sure if i will ever be able to.

it went unnoticed, unfortunately, like how a lot of wii games go unnoticed - because of no advertising and promotion

I personally don't remember every hearing anything about this game

Dont forget the camp here and mostly likely other sites. They dont do a good job of promoting any Wii Gems either

Never heard of it.

The Anno series is very popular here in Germany. So yes, I know about the game.

I would like to buy it if the coop mode is very good. Did you tried it MetalliCube?

I looked into it, I bought the first Anno that was on DS, and that was great. I don't think I'll buy a Wii version though, seems like the kind of game I'd rather play on PC or DS (single player, long sessions). The multiplayer element is cute for any household with more than one person interested in the game I suppose, but not really worthwhile.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

I also got the DS version, although I did like the concept and really enjoyed it at first, it kind of wore off on me and I ended up playing much more Civilization Revolution DS. If I spot the Wii version and it is under $30, I will buy it.

PS. If you like Little King Story, you may want to check out Rune Factory Frontier. It has ended up being my overall favourite Wii title to date.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Definitely an overlooked gem, one of the best 3rd party efforts on the system. If you find it at a bargain price get it and you will not be disappointed especially for rts fans. I also hear that a sequel (venice) is in the works and I'm very much looking forward to it. Must buy if you like RTS.
