GameStop lists standalone 250 GB Xbox 360 hard drive

Hey look what GameStop.com is trying to sell us -- a standalone 250 GB hard drive for the Xbox 360 for $129.99!

On February 14, we ran a story with the headline "No 250 GB 360 hard drive planned outside of bundles." This was based on a quote from Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg, who told Joystiq "We're always evaluating, but for now we feel like the 120 is serving us very well as the standard offering, and then having the 250 as a limited edition is a good balance."

These magical 250 HDDs would be relegated to bundles, like the one released for Modern Warfare 2 last year, and the forthcoming Final Fantasy XIII bundle.

It seems Greenberg is making us out to be liars, or GameStop is putting phantom inventory on its Web site. We'll check in with Microsoft for an update, but this does seem a bit suspicious. I mean, isn't $129.99 for a 250 GB hard drive a little inexpensive for Microsoft? We are talking about the same folks who sold us 120 GB of space for $149.99, and before that 20 GB for one-hundred-effin-dollars, right?

Good news for me if true, I am in the market for a new hard drive.

Would be very nice, especially with more and more downloadable games weighing in at or near 1 GB.

$130 for a 250GB? Well I guess thats about the right price for them. It means people can go Arcade + larger HDD if they want and they still make good margins on the console + accessories. Its also a great size for the present 60GB owners to upgrade to, especially if it comes with the transfer cable.

$130 - $50 for the 60GB used (sold) = $80. I wouldn't mind something like that.

Do you know what its like to live on the far side of Uranus?

It sure beats the 360 60gb for $100

Should be priced at $99.99, but at least its better then the $149.99 they charged for the 120GB before it got discontinued.

They need to have larger harddrives, not just for content but making HDDs at low sizes has to be more expensive than more standards sizes.
This is a guess as I'm not sure that 120GB are still sold.

whoa! this is true :O

How our favorite systems are just like humans and sometimes have issues finding their special someone...

Xbox 360 wants to KinectPS3 wants to Move!  Why are both systems having such relationship problems?  The reason is they both become so infactuated with desire while watching the Wii as it waggles on by. They simply want what they can't have.

I knew it!!! I was at gamestop the other day and talked about this. I was gonna get a 60gb, but decided to hold off since I knew that they would just lower the price when the 250gb comes out. Looks like I made a good decision.

Ugh I need a larger hard drive.

  Kinect! who needs video games!
