Take aside the current problem at hand, which will be resolved in the coming hours. Sony as well as Playstation are all over the web etc. This creates huge interest, people might not only check out what the actual problem is, but the product itself, which can generate new interest and to potentially new consumers.

Wait... so you see on the news how a console has an error that makes it unusable basically, and that makes you want to go out to get one? O.o

I'm not following your logic

We will never know, I just wanted to give the people a different angle on this whole story. You know, something for us to write about.

It's good to do that. I don't know myself.

In things like this where politics is involved (look up politics if you don't get my meaning), the only way to tell is to see what happens after. Usually, if the result is beneficial, the cause was manipulated. So, if something incredible happens to Sony's benefit, it was probably engineered as such. If not, it was probably a huge fuckup.

Well I guess the only thing we can do at this point is speculate and wait for numbers to come out next week, maybe we will see a case of increase or decline towards this week, but of course we will never be able to be 100% certain, unless there will be a huge jump or drop in sales.

Exactly, given Sony's brand equity and value, people associate innovation and high end products with the company, of course there will always be a problem or two at some stage of the product, but in the long run it will prove to be of high value and benefit to the customer. It is what the Playstation 3 can do, not what it has an issue with at this given moment.

Anyone else out there who might have yet another completely different point of view?

ONLY if it includes KEVIN BUTLER!!!!!

Would you be kind enough and tell me how Kevin Butler and the bug are interrelated or are you suggesting that he caused all this?

Will only be positive for Sony if it somehow involves Kevin Butler

Any publicity is good publicity as the saying goes.

True.  But I think the saying was more about things that are infamous rather than negative.  Such as it is good to have publicity about your game being so mature and adult that the politicians are talkign about it.  I doubt it is good publicity, that your system is breaking so much or glitching so much that current owners are getting screwed in their experience.  While getting the brand out, it's not being put out in a good way.  Actually kinda what happened to 360, which I still think the whole RROD has hurt many potential sales of the system with a weakened brand because of it.

So yes most publicity is good, but there is still publicity that can hurt you.
