Take aside the current problem at hand, which will be resolved in the coming hours. Wait... so you see on the news how a console has an error that makes it unusable basically, and that makes you want to go out to get one? O.o

Exactly, given Sony's brand equity and value, people associate innovation and high end products with the company, of course there will always be a problem or two at some stage of the product, but in the long run it will prove to be of high value and benefit to the customer. It is what the Playstation 3 can do, not what it has an issue with at this given moment.
