Take aside the current problem at hand, which will be resolved in the coming hours. Sony as well as Playstation are all over the web etc. This creates huge interest, people might not only check out what the actual problem is, but the product itself, which can generate new interest and to potentially new consumers.

Wait... so you see on the news how a console has an error that makes it unusable basically, and that makes you want to go out to get one? O.o
