Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

I think it was K-19:the widowmaker

Everyone has pirated in there life, no matter how you look at it. It can be literally anything.

But, is it right? Well, it may not be right, but it's easy and it's easy to prevent yourself from being caught.

I think Pirating games is just wrong, unless it's an OLD game, ones you can't get anymore or whatever. I couldn't ever see myself Pirate a newer Video game though.

Music and Movies I think are equally sought after. People do it, because it's crazy easy and you don't need anything special other than Codecs here and there.

Programs - Most people pirate programs because they are too expensive. I can say for myself I have DLed Photoshop back in the day, because I was a Teen and there is just no way I was going to pay for it.

Now to say Myself is against it? I'm not 100% against it.

  • 2010 MUST Haves: WKC, Heavy Rain, GoWIII, Fable III, Mass Effect 2, Bayonetta, Darksiders, FFXIII, Alan Wake, No More Heroes 2, Fragile Dreams: FRotM, Trinity: SoZ, BFBC2.
  • Older Need To Buys: Super Mario Bros. Wii, Mario Kart Wii, Deadspace, Demon's Souls, Uncharted 2.

There is definitely more to list that I want, but that's my main focus there.

I'm not going to read the other comments until I've finished my post so I'm not distracted from my opinion.

I think people need to make a stand on the massive profits many of these companies are making.
Whilst millions are starving and have nowhere to live big companies seem to think they have a perfect right to make massive profits every year and if it doesn't look like the're going to, well so what if a few thousand of their staff have to be laid off.
Of course companies have to make a profit but in my opnion there is acceptable profit and profit at the expense of other people.

I'm constantly hearing, especially from record companies how their artists are being robbed of income due to illegal downloads, yet I still see reports of major artists making millions of $/£ each year.
There is also the arguement that new bands are suffering because of illegal downloads but it seems to me they are suffering because of the constant promotion of reality TV artists and already well astablished acts.
If they really really want to promote new and talented bands, lets have a few appearing on Xfactor etc instead of yet another appearance from Lady Gaga, Maria Carey et al.

I'm not sure who decided it was any artist or companies right to make as much money as they do from products but I myself have decided it's too much, and until they lower them to a more reasonable level, or decide they can maka real difference to peoples lives by donating 25%+ of their profits to helping people that are in real need I will continue to support piracy.

It's pure greed and I hate it!

Hmmm

Music Piracy......No need to bother anymore, access You Tube type in the song and listen for free totally legally.

Film Piracy......Yep fine with that. It all comes on TV within 3 years now so all people are doing is timeshifting their viewing.

Game Piracy.....Hmm difficult. Games are never really given away free and they always retain some intrinsic value.

I used to pirate games back in the eighties when I was a kid. Nowadays I buy all my games. However only 1 in 5 is a new release the rest are either reduced in price or secondhand.

Physical Piracy.....Is not cool. Manhandling people, beating them, violating them through rape and sodomy and physically stealing from them is bad bad bad. On this one I'm going to have to side with the British Navy in the olden days. Try em then hang em. No exceptions !

Most people in the west if they couldn't pirate would buy more content. If you're not interested in something you wouldn't bother to spend the effort to download it. Im sure the quantity bought vs pirated would be quite different but the effect is definately there. Pirates probably download a lot more than they would ever use because its free.

Do you know what its like to live on the far side of Uranus?

Pirates aren't what they once were.

Johnny Depp is alright, but he's not nearly as cool as Errol Flynn and those guys definitely aren't as cool as the one legged drunks that really would steal ships and search the world for treasure. People that steal things like video games and movies aren't pirates. They don't even play them on T.V.

Piracy is bad obviously for the company, but for gaming, specifically the PC it is hurting the customers and pirates as well. Fewer and fewer good games are getting released for the PC and when they are they have wacky security measures that make the experience unenjoyable and this is because the people that play video games are very likely to know how to pirate. Music releases won't really aren't that affected because making an album is no where near as expensive as making a video game and so its almost guaranteed profit, and movies make a large portion of their money from the boxoffice and have a broad audience, many of which wouldn't know about piracy.

I predict as it gets easier and easier to pirate games on the PC, PC gaming will become nonexistent except for subscription based games simply because there is no money to be made. And yes pirates download a lot more games then they would buy, but its bull that any game someone pirates would not have been bought otherwise. I guarantee games like ME2, LFD2, and others would have had twice the PC sales if piracy was nonexistent.
