If my 60GB ps3 becomes a brick. I'll buy a new slim.

BUY!!??

If my fat PS3 becomes a bricxk I will demand a FREE slim.

Im fucked if I am paying for such a basic cock up.

I would love a free ps3 but not happening.  Worst case scenario would be that we have to ship are ps3 to sony to get it fix.  Which should be free shipping and everything.  Ill be happy with a coupon for $200 of a slim.

On topic by the way now, this will more than likely have no effect if sorted with an update within a week. It should be fairly easy to fix but given Sony release a full firmware image for every update then they will have to fully test it as much as possible before release. Imagine if in their haste to fix this issue they left a backdoor into the system.

I'm considering taking my PS3 to work tonight now actually to pull the CMOS battery to work around this. Warranty isn't an issue for me anyway.

@Theprof - This is me moving on and dropping the flogging a dead horse syndrome.

thank you.

yes the battery is a confirmed fix.

OT: Damn you Sony for obsessing over piracy to the point where something like this happens.

...this whole internal clock/8001050F problem?

I mean, depending on how quickly Sony solves the issue and other things, do you see any major negative impact on Sony and the PS3...or is that quite a stretch?

why would sales, which you must only mean as new retail sales, be affected when the PS3's at retail aren't affected by the issue?

If people are afraid to turn on their systems, chances are they aren't buying any games.

only someone with severe emotional problems would believe this to be a long term problem and thus not turn on their system for any amount of time that would hurt sales.  I'm rather certain that Sony isn't going to be adversely affected if nobody buys a games today and instead makes their purchases tomorrow after it is fixed.

what do you think is going to happen, people who paid $400-$600 dollar for systems are simply never going to use them again because they are afraid it won't work?  yes, never using it is the more sensible course of action, because it is better to have a machine you never play than a machine you are afraid won't work if you try.

this is a short-term problem.  what kind of sales effect are you suggesting may occur if the system simply desn't work for a day or two?

Did I say that it was long term? Don't put words into my mouth.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

so, what are you suggesting, that there is going to be a significant sales repercussion of players not buying games only today when the systems don't work?  really?  the only way your scenario of software sales is meaningful is if it is a long-term aversion to buying software, not simply one day.  I didn't put words in your mouth, I simply assumed you grasped your own argument.  clearly my optimism was not founded.

Have you ever noticed how comments start simple and to the point, then get longer and more off topic as the thread progresses?
Funny eh?

While this is pretty annoying, as long as the fix can be resolved quickly I will not be too unhappy. Code has errors, news at 11.

Sure, didn't you play "telephone" as a kid? By the end of this thread we could be talking about PS3's starting on fire and YLOD at 100%.
