It should be fairly easy to fix but given Sony release a full firmware image for every update then they will have to fully test it as much as possible before release. Imagine if in their haste to fix this issue they left a backdoor into the system.

I'm considering taking my PS3 to work tonight now actually to pull the CMOS battery to work around this. Warranty isn't an issue for me anyway.
