Forums - General Discussion - Canada sets record for most gold medals in Winter Olympic's

Canada just beat out the record last held by Norway and U.S.S.R, by getting 14 Gold medals at the winter olympics. The last record setting gold medal was won when Canada beat America in Hockey for the gold medal. Congrats Canada, you went from never winning a gold medal on Canadian soil to setting a record for most gold medals ever won :)

pretty impressive, shame they didnt actually have the highest medal count.

"They will know heghan belongs to the helghast"

"England expects that everyman will do his duty"

"we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender"

Wait.. didn't we had a thread last week about the USA being the best evar!!!!?

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

You have to remember that new events are added with each olympics so there are nowadays a lot more chances to take gold medal than it was for example in Innsbruck 1976 when U.S.S.R made previous record. (37 compared to 86 events...) Still great achievement of course. Congratulations for Canada.

Congratulations to all our athletes, I think I speak for all 33 million of us when I say we're very proud of you

@NKAJ. Its almost universally accepted that the correct way to measure success at an olympic games is through gold medal count with silver and bronzes being tie breakers.

lol canadas the only country that gives a damn about the winter olympics.

except Canada admitted defeat in the total medal count race. Obviously people still care about totals.

The United States and Canada "score" the Olympics by using total medal counts (there may be other countries, I don't know, but these are the two that I know of). The rest of the world uses Gold to determine the "winner" of the Olympics.
