what happens if you try to set the right date again?

I would say at least ONE of the ~25 million Ps3 fat users has tried that already.. and if it worked we'd know about it.

Wow..now that I think of it, wouldn't it be horrible if Sony had to replace these systems. I'm pretty sure there's some kind of fail safe for this....well let's just say I hope there's a cheaper solution.

I get aggravated everytime I see someone say that theres going to be a recall...

I am a highly overpaid PC Tech and I can tell you that there won't be a recall or a need to send in your PS3. This is a BIOS issue, and can be fixed via firmware update.

STOP SPREADING RUMORS OF A MASSIVE RECALL/REPLACEMENT.

Whoa, excuse me highly overpaid PC Tech. I only said, "Wouldn't it be horrible if Sony had to replace these systems?" I never said anything like, "Sony said on their Twitter that you'll have to send those Fat daddies in. We'll fix 'em right up." By cheaper solution, I did mean a firmware update as well. As a said earlier, my 60gb PS3 works great and I have the first model. It may also be because I fixed it and unplugged the battery inside.

I do not think he read what happened to your unit or what you did to it..

but I think the reset of the PS3's Bios by disconnecting the PS3's motherboard  battery is

A solution. a warranty voiding Solution that is..though I can see how you pretty much did not have a choice , if you did not want it to be sent back in, and you felt you could do the repair yourself..congrat's by the way on the repair.

Thanks. Yeah it took me about 3 hours because I have the biggest fingers and I didn't want to miss anything when fixing it. I actually work at a Gamestop and so I knew trade-in would be low on it and so I called Sony. Sony tells me that they'll fix it for about $178 after shipping. I was pissed because I was an early adopter of the system when it was $600. I didn't wanna spend anymore money on it than I had to. So, I bought a heat gun, which I returned afterwards, and some arctic silver thermal compound and fixed it for about $10. Like you said, I had no warranty, so I figured I'd give it a try. The worse part of the whole process was putting it back together and hitting the button....I prayed it wouldn't turn yellow...lol

lol..it's like the DR. who syndrome, have the hammer ready when you need to fix something on the tardis.

or in my case another Mobo, heatsink, ram, Harddrive processor, etc. never know when you may need the solder gun..

Mine is still not working. That is lame :(

I would not call it lame ,I know its frustrating, but thing's happen, It's not like Sony is ignoring it. were talking about a very sizable number of people that are having this problem. Have you tryed going online to web sites with your PS3 yet ?

mine was hit with the bug and I stll can use that function,

Yea I know it does not help with the game's or the PSN, i think though it's not as hopeless of a situation that many people are fearing, just based on my experience in the IT industry I think the Fix will infact be here very soon. I say Hang in there guy's these unforeseen thing's do happen.

since the indicator's that this was inside the bio's chip that does bode well indeed because that bio's chip can be flashed.

My friend you're right about that. I hope that's the last time I have to do it, especially with FFXIII and GOWIII coming out in a few weeks.

If you read this, slap yourself.

Ah great my PS3 is not affected CHECHL and CHECHP series are working. Now I can finally turn it off.

Mine is a CHECHL. Is it confirmed to be working properly?

Ok what shall we call this problem then?

We have the red ring of death, the yellow light of death etc..

How about "Y2k10 error" or "Date Rape" (take that in good humour)

So trophies will be lost if you attempt to log in?

it's not as simple as your looking at as.

for instance :

these system's are geared toward by design as system like you have as a PC these system's are entertainment computer's. these are not like a Game console in the sense as the PS2 or the Game Cube even to some extent as the first xbox.

with the function's they have added also come's with more complex system design. the Bio's of these system's are like the PC bio's not like the Bio's you had in much older Game system's.

you did not have firmware update's to your PS2 like you would have that is on the PS3. more complexity come's greator chance of a fault, but since these thing's that happen are few and far between , and that some can be more critical than other's quite a number of people are not used to this, which is quite understandable if your mainly a console gamer and not say a gamer on the PC.

many PC gamer's have experienced problem's like this many time's it's just the first time game console's have hd this extent of problem's. they will get ironed out, and I know it is very frustrating but they are working to fix it. I say hang in there.
