The past few days have been slightly more hostile than normal. There have been a few locked threads for baiting and what appears to be a record-number of moderations within a short period of time; just look at the number of members banned within the past few days. Of course people have responded to these events with their thoughts and opinions on the source of the problem. Unfortunately, instead of blaming the few individual users who are causing the problems, they have condemned large pools of people. This line of thinking is incredibly ineffective and is frankly quite stupid.

One thing everyone needs to realize is groups aren’t the problem. For the most part, the community is pretty good. There isn’t some giant mass of powerful, troublesome users running rampant causing mayhem. Instead, ten times out of ten, there’s a rather small group of individuals causing problems. Oftentimes there’s just one troublemaker. Condemning large pools of people is a very stupid way to respond when a situation gets out of control. Firstly, it blames innocents who had no involvement with the situation, which makes the environment more hostile than it needs to be. But most importantly, instead of pinpointing the true source of the problem, blaming entire groups will do nothing but spread the blame away from the true troublemaker and disperse it across the entire group of people. Needless to say, this does not help moderators pinpoint the trouble.

So instead scorning entire groups when you feel upset, instead you should confront the troublemakers. When confronting these individuals, I recommend using the D.I.P method, a pH.D certified procedure for dealing with trouble in forums. Following the D.I.P method means being direct, immediate, and persuasive. Direct can mean two things; it can mean either directly confronting the troll himself or it can mean directly seeking a moderator when the trouble arises. What you should NOT do is watch the trouble take place and say nothing, only to let it fuel a hate rant in some completely unrelated thread – that’s borderline trolling in itself. You need to attack the problem at its roots. By being immediate, you confront the trouble as quickly as possible when you see it happen. Again, this can be via confronting the troll as soon as he makes a bad post, or seeking a moderator. The quicker, the better. Psychology has shown us that the best way to eliminate unwanted actions is by initiating the punishment as soon as possible after the action is committed.

Perhaps the most important component of the D.I.P method is the last: persuasive. If you want to stop a problem and influence change, there’s only two ways you can do so; either by convincing the troublemaker that he’s actually wrong (this is tough), or by convincing a moderator someone is wrong. Either way, you have to make sure you submit a persuasive argument if you want to influence any change. If you are truly correct and the person you’re confronting is truly wrong, then you should have no problem articulating why they are wrong. Don’t just post “ahh GTFO Troll!” Remember, you’re trying to be convincing. A good rule of thumb is to leave a post that even you would find convincing. If you know you wouldn’t take “you suck you Atari fanboy!” seriously, then you know for sure no one else would. And even if the person is beyond reason, by being persuasive, you are also much more likely to get other people, including moderators, on your side. 

tl:dr - If someone does something wrong, don't bottle it up letting fuel your hatred of an entire group of people. Recognize that the troublemakers are individuals and are not representative of any large group. If you really want to improve the site, then follow the D.I.P procedure, which has proven to be very effective when dealing with trolls. Confront the troublemakers at an individual level for maximum improvement.

Out of the 3 though, I think FF13 has a strong chance outselling both based on the series' history.



Pixel Art can be fun.

I think GoW III has a chance outselling the rest.The games footage has impressed a lot of people and God of War Collection had sold 600k copies,which is impressive for a re-release.

New Features

- Instinct Mode -
One of the new and most controversial features is the new instinct mode. Instinct mode allows 47 to predict enemy patrol routes, much like the 'sonar vision' feature in Splinter Cell: Conviction, 'eagle sense' in Assassin's Creed, and the 'detective mode' in Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. The Instinct Mode in Hitman: Absolution can only be used for a limited amount of time before it drains completely out. In the harder difficulties, the Instinct mode can only be used very rarely. Players will not be able to use Instinc Mode on the hardest difficulty.

Some people claim that Instinct Mode makes the game cheap and casual, but I disagree. The Instinct Mode shows the exact same thing that the maps showed you in past Hitman Games (enemies, points of interests, etc). The only difference is, with Instinct Mode, you don't have to go through the hassle of constantly flipping between the map and the gameplay. Essentially, the map is streamlined into the gameplay experience.

I thought the following article, from here, was really well done and I think you all should give it a read.

 

Agent 47's going to be a busy man when Hitman: Absolution is released later this year. Because with "Contracts" mode, the hits just keep on coming, as players have been given the power to design the assassinations that keep Mr. 47 in business.

At PAX Prime, we got the chance to sample the type of jobs we can expect in "Contracts," returning to a familiar level, Chinatown, in a contract designed by developer IO Interactive. We chose the harder of the two available options, which involved taking out two police officers and a seedy mobster. To collect a bonus, Agent 47 had to take them all out, hurt no one else, hide every dead body, and not miss a single shot.

All we had at our disposal was a garrote wire and a silenced pistol. We'd have to find additional killing tools throughout the level.

Turns out, taking out one of those police officers — the one who was all alone, guarding a sports car — wasn't too hard. 47 just needed to keep an eye on him and, when his back was turned, subdue him, snap a vertebra or two, and dump the remains in a nearby Dumpster.

Killing the mobster was also a waiting game. At one point, the target left the safety of his crooked cop bodyguards, venturing to a lower level to recover something. A quiet approach, another broken neck, another conveniently placed trash bin, and we were onto the next one.

Eliminating that last target was a puzzle, however. He just stood there, smoking, surrounding by his fellow police officers and Chinatown residents milling about. Sniping him from a second level apartment only drew more cops who opened fire on Agent 47. Tossing a flaming gas can at him wasn't going to work either. We weren't allowed to hurt bystanders, if we wanted that bonus cash. And shooting him in the back with a silenced pistol wasn't as effective as it might seem. People noticed.

We were stumped.

Fortunately, we had a little help from Hitman: Absolution game director Tore Blystad, who informed us that we probably should've disguised ourselves as a police officer and led our final target to a more secluded spot. Afterward, Blystad told us much more about IO Interactive's new "Contracts" mode and what the developer hopes players will create with its tools.

As you can see, Critics are in love with CONTRACTS Mode!!! I can't wait to get my hands on this game! I can see myself playing new Contracts months, perhaps years, after release!

FFXIII has no chance. While it will undoubtedly sell well, the sales will also be extremely front-loaded, just as they were in Japan and just as they have been in all regions for the last several games. It'll have one week at #1, then maybe another week or two in the top 10.

Between the other two it's a toss-up. Neither series is known for having particularly strong legs: they both do better than FF historically, but they both do poorly enough to be vulnerable: depending on what gets released around that time, either one might be knocked out of the #1 spot after a week, putting them at a tie with FFXIII. They do, however, stand a good chance of remaining in the top 10 for longer than FFXIII will.



Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters.
