It has been reported that following a recent 230MB patch update to Heavy Rain, some users have claimed that their copy is now suffering from various problems. The game was well praised by both critics and userbase. Sadly the 230 MB patch came in the way to be a hurdle for some users.

Some believe that the launch models or 40 GB versions are the victims. But there are plenty of launch model users and 40 GB users in different forums stating they had finished the game in one stretch without a single glitch or maybe just an audio skipping. The consoles which are affected would probably be a result due to corrupt firmware update or hardware issue. Maybe for some, but not all. I didn't download the patch and experienced no problems for the first 3 chapters. I turned the game off at the end of chapter 4, turned it on the next day and my save data won't load unless I go back a whole chapter. I have a 120gig PS3...

None of the slim users have not complained so far. patch is messin up here some consoles.

Didnt download the patch, after i heard of the problems.
I've only had a single audio problem, and that was at the start of a chapter, so i could just restart the game, and jump right in.
Amazing game.

Didn't hear about problems, downloaded the patch and had an audio dropout and 2 freezes. I have the slim btw

its was playing up (freezing, audio dropouts) on my 40GB. I'm gonna try it on my slim when I get back to my uni digs. (Gutted, just found out the save files are copy protected so I have to start again!!!)

I did one playthrough with the patch(1.01) and no freeze up on the slim model.

On my 60gig launch PS3 with HR + patch, one playthrough down without any of the listed problems (tho I did have the occasional audio slowdown at the beginning + a few funny stuck textures).

Could always just be SKU of PS3/patch issue.

right ive tried it with my slim aswell now, same problems as before
