How would the wii beat last year's numbers now?

pretty easily, all Wii has to do is maintain sales, last year Wii sales dropped off hard, this year it looks like the only issue is supply

The wii only dropped 2 million untis. How is that a big slowdown? Unless your talking about Q2&3? That's when 2008's numbers
jumped through the roof til the Q4 when it slowly droppped until the Christmas season

Well if you look at Q2 and 3 last year, Wii fell as low as the upper 100's, if it stays well above that this year, likely, then it'll probably outpace 2009 without any problem

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Nintendo will need to increase production again.  Maybe?

So that demand will decrease? I don't think so. Its a battle they can't win. Demand will decrease is you scale up production.
Demand will increase if its scaled down. That's how I look at it

Increasing supply has nothing to do with demand, though. When sales of your product increase you have to increase production. How did you come to that conclusion?

Wii sells more the first holiday season after a price drop. Why are people surprised?  and more importantly, why wasn't Nintendo prepared...

it was a joke. That's how it seems. Though.Sales went up when they just scaled down production.  Now they have to scale up again

I doubt the high sales were caused by the price drop. Especially in Japan the price drop didn't have that much of an effect and sales were down YoY until Mario Bros. was released.

Iwata also said in an interview the price cut didn't have the effect they were expecting and to investors he said he was worried about the performance until December.

Most likely Nintendo just underestimated the Mario effect and thought it wouldn't push such a lot of hardware.

It seems Wii is in for another 20+m year, which was not obvious last summer.

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

with the interesting titles coming in 2010 i see the wii wont drop in sales much

matter of fact i see an increase from help of the big first party line up
