Forums - Nintendo Discussion - How do you feel about the (radical) changes in Metroid:Other M?

You can see the whole thing here:http://news.vgchartz.com/news.php?id=7186

The major thing here, I guess, is this:

- Okay, now, this is a shocker, a gamechanger, a gamebreaker, call it what you will, but it fundamentally changes Metroid. Items are no longer found through exploration, instead, your Commanding Officer will authorize the use of various items - in the section Destructoid played, the commander authorized morph ball bombs.
- No, not done yet. Remember hunting around for energy? How about missiles? Forget about doing so ever again, or at least in Metroid Other M. Tilt the wiimote vertically and hold "A" to replenish your missile supply at any time... doing the same if your health dips into the red will replenish one energy tank at a time.

As far as I´m concerned, my hype has gone considerably down.

What about you?...do you like the changes?...think the game will bomb?

That may only be for the first few items, it's a replacement for the standard plot ploy of Samus losing some of her powers.

The health/ammo thing could be annoying though.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

www.xnagg.com/zombieasteroids/publish.htm

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Already said it on the news page, but:

- Targeting is completely automatic.
- Items are no longer found through exploration
- Tilt the wiimote and hold "A" to replenish your missiles and health.

Really turns me off.

I'll still get it day one, as I'm a huge Metroid fan and the game will possibly still rock my panties off. But it doesn't sound good for sure.

I don't imagine that healing will be THAT simple - though it's not quite so bad to be able to heal outside of combat.

It just means that combat can be balanced to be harder now.

Hrm.

Anyway. This isn't as big a change as Metroid Prime had, but I'm still excited exactly because it looks so different. Re-inventing Metroid is kind of what I was hoping for.

its a different game

thats what has me excited

i beat the gba ones, snes, nes, gcn, and wii ones

ive explored enough, one time let em do somethin else

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

Well every impression so far has gave it nothing but praise, the only thing that seems to be divided amongst the journalist is the voice acting, some think samus's voice is awesome while some don't like it

Im just loving it! I cant be more hyped! This is gonna be awesome! it's just what I expected! Im so happy, I just need a trailer! Pleaseeee! hahah!

The only thing that really bothers me is the massive artistic downgrade from Retro to Team Ninja. It looks like Halo with a toy Samus. Bah.

Interestingly, killing enemies will no longer provide you with health or missiles. Instead, tilting the Wii Remote vertically and holding "A" can replenish your supply at any time. The same can be done for health as well; if it dips into the red, tilting the remote and holding "A" will replenish one energy tank.
Ah, I see.

This isn't a matter of being able to stand there until you regenerate all your health. This is a case where you can replenish 100 health if you're nearly dead, and if I'm right this isn't something that can be easily done in combat.

Radical? I don't think it's more radical then Prime.
I don't know about not being able to find weapon/suit upgrades (are we 100% sure there won't be any at all?) but there will be the usual energy tanks and missile upgrades to find. According to Wired's hands-on there was a couple of upgrades to find in the demo and you had to blow up walls to find those.

I am interested to learn more about Samus, so there's no gamebreaker there but I don't want MGS cutscenes.

The way you replenish missiles and health is new and I'm a bit sceptical for now. I don't know if it will make the game easier, or if the game will be harder. I can imagine having low life when surrounded by enemies to be a real pain.
