I'm wondering if ppl who think PS3 is going to sell 100m how much are they expecting Wii to sell?

funny that only one replied with a joke answer. How about they expect Wii not to reach 100 million while PS3 will sell over 100 million?

@OP: Like a lot of users have already posted, it is possible (since anything is possible) but it's unlikely to happen. I'm willing to bet that PS3 will not sell 12 million per year from 2011-2014.

Also, as my sig used to say, I believe Wii will reach 200 million before PS3 reaches 100 million. Since I don't think Wii will reach 200 million, I certanly don't think PS3 will reach 100 million.

My prediction for PS3 LT is 75 mil and tied with 360 while Wii finishes at 145 mil. (Post here on Jan/09/2010)

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Should do +15 million this year, more if stock is there. 18ish the following. Nearish 20 next.

++100m 2014

Easy nuf.

People are still forgetting that Sony made 2 massive f**kups with the PS3. They are slowly sorting the price out which was one but the second in other countries is the lack of backwards compatibility. I've been asked thousands of times by customers if they can play their PS2 games on it and when you say no they go look at the 360. Massively silly idea to drop backwards compatibility. Its like Blu Ray not being able to play DVDs lol. Its debatable that putting in a Blu Ray drive is a 3rd problem but hey :)

these 70-75 million predictions are a little dire for a system that is promoted in both the videogame market AND the movie arenas. If it does end up selling 70 - 75 million it will be a major flop in the movie industry as a new medium even with other standalone sales i dont think it will take the movie industry long to jump aboard another medium

Even if the PS3 didn't "win" this generation. What does that matter when comparing the lifetime of the PS1 and PS2 to the PS3? I mean if Sony still supports the PS3, it's price is cheap enough by then, and it has the big game library, why wouldn't people still buy the PS3 like they bought the PS2/PS1 after the next generations started??

People thinking the PS3 sales will explode are being far to optimistic. Already this year the sales have slowed as they normally do after a large price cut. Right now if the PS3 continues at the pace it is currently showing and with the exact same November and December sales this upcoming fall it will hit right around 13 million for the year. September and October wont be anything like September and October 2009.

a) explode is not what peole are pointing toward, it's sustained sales over time.

b) why would the PS3 not project higher sales that it does now when the price drop's to $199.00, because there is no Playstation 3 at $199.00 !

yet many people think that there will be little to no  demand for the Playstation 3 at $199.00?, look at the xbox360's arcade it's at $199.00 an it sell's very well.

unless you think there will be little demand for the Playstation 3 in the next couple of year's. but that's the very same thing's were said about the PS3 back all through 2007 and 2008 that there in the media and internet by many pundant's doubting the future of the PS3 IE: the PS3 is DOOMED thread's that were so; and in some cases still popular roaming on the internet even now . many thought thre would  be very little damand  before the Playstation 3 slim was produced.

joeorc,

Maybe I need to be more specific. People are expecting the PS3 to hit between 15 and 16.5 million in 2010. That aint gonna happen.

As for PS3 at $199. Safe to say that is a couple years off.

I also made a comment about 10 year plan. Some people thought that I meant that PS3 wont be on sale 10 years from release. That isnt the case both the PS3 and the 360 will still be a available at retail on thier 10th anniversary. What I was saying was that the PS4 and the Xbox Next will have been already available for a couple of years at least when the 10 year anniversary hits. PS3 and 360 sales will be on the downward slide, yet very profitable stage then (well the 360 will anyway. dont know if PS3 will ever be very profitable).

In a recession and the Price of the PS3 is still st $299.00 I do not even think Sony expect's that ,

15 to 16 Million system's sold per year right now is the upper high end in projection's

Sony coughs to PS3 stock shortfall

Demand too high, spins console giant

Sony has admitted it is not shipping enough PlayStation 3 consoles into the UK.

The company told the trade paper MCV today that it is experiencing PS3 "stock issues". Sony UK Sales Director Mark Howsen said: "We are doing our best to address these issues and hope to catch up in the next few weeks."

The shortages - which Sony says are particularly hitting the 120GB PS3 Slim - affect the US too. The company's US wing said earlier this week that would-be buyers can "expect tight inventory in the coming months" - 'sold out' signs in shops, in other words.

Howsen paints the shortages as a sign of strong demand for the console - 20 per cent higher than Sony had forecast."

projecting 10 million world wide /per year is not out of the relm though!

10 million / year in 10 year's is 100 million there are many people that do not the think the PS3 or the xbox360 can sell 10 million system's a year for 10 year's, with the reduction of the price for these system's not even in the $149.00 to the $199.00 price yet,

right now even at $199.00 + for the xbox360

an

right now even at $299.00+ for the Playstation 3

demand for the system's are still quite strong, and were not even getting to the lowest price point's yet.

The PS3 is going to sell at least 35 million more consoles, which would be quite successful in my opinion, but hitting 100 million? I doubt it.

I think the $300 price point of the PS3 is worth another 5 million consoles, a $200 price point worth 25 million consoles, and $150 worth 5 million. Depending on word of mouth, increasing Blu-ray popularity, and other factors, I'm sure each of those price points could push more consoles, but it would take some luck.
