People should stop bitching about this and making it seems like PS3 could sell way way way way more if it had no shortages,

which I'm yet to see official confirmation from various retailers (not Sony PR bullshit statements or your local Gamestop random employee) that indeed PS3 is in several shortages worldwide.

The 120GB Slim is currently on 1-2 month backorder from ---> Amazon <--- even though each household is limited to only one console purchase.

http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-3-120-GB/dp/B002I0J4VQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1267552396&sr=8-1

Gotta hate that PR bullshit

So, Amazon = The World?

I live in the most shittiest country of all europe, that has the most shittiest stores about videogames, all of them with PLENTY of PS3 in stock.

Feel free to order one:

Gotta hate that PR bullshit indeed. Such a shame

Sony copying Nintendo shortage tactics, confirmed?

Why?  They already copied their wiimote :P

Thats true!

Did nintendo copy atari when atari created video games?

No Atari copied Ralph Baer, Nintendo was the driving force behind arcades. However Nintendo may have been inspired by Pong but they didn't copy the games. Nintendo created platforming and created fresh IP's and controller interfaces. Nintendo has never ever really copied anyone.

Haha Nintendo has never copied anyone? Well I seem to remember Nintendo still using cartridges when PS1 came to the market on a CD. Next for Nintendo? Cds in the Gamecube! There is some copying for you.

Don't worry bud it will all work out, Sony knows what they are doing, trust me

In that case, Sony just copyed the previous machines that had CD player such as the Phillips CDI, Wowow and SEGA CD.

There is some pwonage for you, sir.

Well we've got no obvious shortages in the UK but then the PS3 still costs 380 bucks here so its little wonder.

I managed to locate a used 250gb PS3 w/ CoD MW2 on craigslist so hopefully I'll be picking that up today. As for CoD, it's likely getting traded in at gamestop :)

i havent seen a 120GB in any shop i have been in for around 3 weeks

Same.

There definitely are shortages in U.S. (at least where I live).

Since the original poster is from the US as are most of the people that are commenting on the shortages, the information about availability in your country means absolutely nothing relating to these shortages.

While Amazon != the world, it is definitely a good indicator of supply vs. demand.  Much better than a local shop in the middle of nowhere.

^

Amazon sales is a far cry from overall US sales, so their availability in stock might mean as much as a local shop in the middle of nowhere.
